2011 J22 Worlds just down the road at SYC this week

The local J22 fleet is well represented at the upcoming J22 Worlds (in NOLA), which start Wednesday.

The Lees, Lamberts, Voyles, Koepke, Sutton...Flynn...just to name a few!

Several boats and crews have been preparing all year (or even longer) for this event.  
There are some rock stars in this class to be sure:
Terry Flynn has won it a few times, Rob Johnston is racing (yes that Johnston)

If you ever wanted to know where you stand it the world on One Design sailboat racing, a J22 is not a bad choice.

Results link. After a delay in the am, day one had light air, still got 3 races in...maybe a little more wind for day 2...

Coming into the last day of racing at the J22 worlds in NOLA, the sailors from the Houston area are almost covering the full spectrum in the 64 boat fleet.  Fighting hard at the top is Terry Flynn in 3rd place, four points behind the two boats tied for 1st and looking to fight off Rob Johnson (from J boats) on Dieselsnack marching up to 4th place, and a screaming Dazzler in 5th place who finished the third day of racing with two firsts.

Marvin Beckman also putting in the good fight and making up for a deep lower place ending on the first day, finished the day in 14th place.  Right behind him, Jake Scott (almost from Houston) did a great job jumping up in the ranks on the second day, only to have had what appears to have been a rough 3rd day, but still ending the day in 15th place.   

Brant Koepke and crew although otherwise showing well, ended the third day with a deep, and their worst, 48th place finish to end the day in 23rd place.   In the next bracketing, Alex Crowley, et al, are fighting back from what looks to have been a very, very rough first day, and are in 38th place, finishing a race with a third and ninth in the last two days.  Richard Voyles is striking up his band with a best finish eighteenth for the last race and ending the third day in 41st place.

Giving a solid performance with a make shift crew, thanks to yours truly bailing out (for work of all things), Anne Lee and the fun bunch are in 49th place just a little ahead of Tom Sutton in 52nd place.

Relaying/Reporting from a results page on the website, leaves a lot to be desired.  However, it appears there are some great racing stories to be told about this year?s J22 Worlds in New Orleans. The stories about what happened on the ground are, I am sure, best left restricted to those who got to participate in the regatta.  Good luck to all on the last day, you each have shown us desk jockeys back at home very proud.   Sailors from Houston as a whole really do know how to sail well.

And for those who may not know, in the Texas Gulf waters, the Harvest Moon Regatta looks to be finishing well with almost perfect weather.

I TOTALY LEFT OFF LAMBERTS ? SORRY!  Ruthie Lambert with Casey and Evan, also had a very, very rough first day, but fought back from the almost last in fleet, with a solid second day and then an eighth place finish to end the third day in 29th place.  If here is any boat to bet on jumping up big in the rankings it is ?Out of Sight.?
