Congratulations!  You are half way through another Houston summer, sorta.

The average high temperature should decrease from here on out.
Average high: 94 degrees...now down to 93 as of 8/17.  yeah!

Data source: NOAA, Hobby

My totally unscientific observation is that this has been a hotter that average summer, by several degrees...
I don't seem to remember this many days in the upper 90's -100's

The high pressure over Texas seems unusually persistant this summer.
Hopefully it will stick around another month or so and keep the 'canes away.
Thoughts?

Totally agree that it seems hotter this summer.  The big difference seems to be it's not cooling off at night.  I've walked outside early in the morning and it felt like I got hit in the face with a hot wet towel.  If a persistent high will keep the 'canes away, I'm all for it.  But a big chunk of cool continental air could do it too.  Wait a minute, it's 96 in Seattle, so I guess that's not happening soon.
