Free and open to everyone
--- The Texas A&M sailing team will be there and would appreciate any donations to the Texas A&M Sailing Team Endowment

Join us for a talk, discussion, and book signing with Nicholas Hayes, author of Saving Sailing.

While participation in sailing is down more than 40% since 1997 and 70% since 1979, it is not for the reasons that one might think. Researcher and avid sailor Nicholas Hayes talked with more than a thousand sailors and sailor wannabes, and uses their stories to set the record straight:  *Risky? In the greater scheme of things, it may be riskier not to sail.  *Inaccessible? That depends: If you think that sailing takes time and is complex, you?re right. But these are the things that make sailing valuable.  *Expensive? Not so. Sailing can be among the most affordable things a family and friends might do in their free time.

Good book.  If you haven't read it, you should.  I didn't agree with a number of items he put forward.  But, on the whole, this guy has some very good thoughts on sailing.   Mr. Hayes has done a better job at articulating  where we've been with sailing than anyone else.  His views on where we're going are also very good and well reasoned.  It should be interesting to sit in on this discussion considering some of the views of organizations and individuals in this area.
