The Heald Bank Race is not just for the "Bold" this year.  For those who don't have the time, or the crew, or the right boat for the overnight offshore race next Friday, you can do the Saturday race and still join the Pirate's Pig Roast Awards Party and listen to Hanna's Reef.   BuccaneerBash.info to register.  Be sure to select whether you want to do the Offshore or the Bay Race. We will have colored pirate flags to identify each class of registrants.  And lots of Texas Navy Rum to give away.

Start making plans now to shake out those offshore sails!   Harvest Moon is still five months away but in less than two months from now you can race offshore and then party with Hanna's Reef in the air-conditioned comfort of the Lakewood Ballroom.  The Heald Bank Regatta is set for the last weekend in June, with another Friday start, followed by a Saturday pig roast and awards party; if you are not ready for an offshore challenge, join the Pirates' Pursuit that Saturday in the bay, then come out and join the Pirates' Pig Roast. Visit BuccaneerBash.info for more information and to register or reserve table for you and your crew.

Does anyone know of a boat that will be at the start but not racing?  Point Glas cannot make it this year so we would like to know who else might be out there Thursday.

The Coast Guard presentation for Saturday has been CANCELLED.  Ed and Gene hope to reschedule it once Homeland Security is able to support non emergency programs again.  For those racing this weekend, have a great race. For everyone else, have a great weekend!

Galveston Bay Area Racing / Harvest Moon Ragatta 2013
September 19, 2013, 09:12:10 AM
The 27th annual Harvest Moon Regatta? is coming up fast. A few approaching deadlines are coming up even faster.

Tomorrow, Friday, September 20, is the last day to purchase polo shirts for your crew customized with your boat name.  Six different color options are available, and only four shirts are required to qualify for the free embroidery. https://www.regattanetwork.com/clubmgmt/applet_storefront.php?regatta_id=6754&clear_session=1

Sunday, September 29th at 5 PM is the deadline to enter the race without incurring a late fee.  Enter on line at: https://www.regattanetwork.com/clubmgmt/applet_registration_form.php?regatta_id=6754

This year, watchmaker Jorg Gray has donated a watch which will be given to the overall monohull champion.  You can see a photo of the watch here:

We are also supporting Ovarian Cancer education and research through the Sailathon again.  September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness month, so how about pledging $5 to support a Harvest Moon competitor and help spread the word about this deadly and frequently undiagnosed form of cancer that can affect the women you love.

US Sailing is offering a new program to help educate potential jurors for club races, but the seminar also provides great info for those of you who may one day find yourself in the protest room as a protestor or protestee.  It costs only $25 for US Sailing members.  It is being offered at Lakewood Yacht Club on Sunday and Monday evenings, June 3 and 4, so it won't interfere with racing.

General Discussion / HMR racer injured in bike accident
December 14, 2010, 11:09:18 AM
Paul Horton from Austin has raced Harvest Moon and other GB races on several occasions.  Shortly after the regatta this year, he was involved in a bad bike accident.  This news clip tells how his golden retriever summoned help to the paralized sailor following the tumble.  Please keep Paul in your thoughts as he works toward regaining his ability to sail.
