Ladies, I know HYC has struggled with this regatta in the past.  It has taken a while for them to let us sail boats bigger than 35' and even fly a spinnaker.  They worry about the weather a little too much and if we'll hurt ourselves or sink the boats but nothing bad ever happens.  In fact, what does happen, is some pretty fun, competitive racing.

Right now, Stinger is the only PHRF Spinnaker signed up.  Can we get a few more PHRF boats on the line so we can fly spinnakers?  It's too hot to run downwind without a chute on a 105.

I'm glad they caught the guy.  Please keep the couple in your thoughts.  The man is still in the hospital with broken ribs and a punctured liver.

I'm reposting this from the General Discussion thread but I think everyone needs to see it and watch for this boat to report them.

From USCG Galveston:

Last evening (5/26/2013), the crew of 25809 responded to a boat collision off Seawolf Park, they transferred a man who had been thrown into the water when a Catamaran power driven vessel collided with a S/V. The man and woman were transported to UTMB with injuries, and the Catamaran Hull left the scene without stopping to aid the occupants of the S/V. If you are in the local area and see a white catamaran (power driven) vessel with heavy bow damage, please call             409-766-5633      . Very sad that this boater failed to follow the navigation rules of the road and worse yet, fled the scene.

Every year for the Bank Regatta, Ed would generously donate a prize of some kind or race sleeves or whatever he could.  I would swing by the loft (so convenient because it's up in town) and there he would be, sitting at his computer, under years and years of old Galveston Bay regatta posters and he would just be smiling.  I will really miss Ed and his support of GBCA over the years.

Thank you sir for your generosity and for your love of sailing.  You will be missed.
