Icicle 2 will be the 4th annual "Goulash Race".
Hans Sitter, owner of King's Biergarten in Pearland will again provide goulash soup.
(Hans is now also an author and may want to promote his new book. I doubt it will have much to do with sailing.)

Congratulations to Shearwater for completing the race to Hawaii - they are excused for not signing up for Bay Cup.
Good luck to the offshore racers and the Race Committee with Texas Race Week!
Here's what's in store for Bay Cup next weekend:

Taking advantage of a high tide at noon, we plan to start the first race in Trinity Bay at 12:30, hoping for a decent sea breeze. As in recent years, we will set a quadrangular course of 8.5 Nm around tetrahedrons.

Second race: Z-shaped courses between 13.6 and 8.7 Nm, including a likely weather leg, with start near Marker 8 of the South Cut, around either the low range ("E"), the high range ("K") or the "H" rig, then South to M54 and finishing near Kemah.

Event planning (trophies etc.) would be greatly facilitated by timely sign-ups!
Thanks,
Gerhard Wittich

Special thanks to all GBCA volunteers, who have contributed to the success of Bay Cup I:

To John and Scott Lacy, supported by Kelly Dees and Denise Christensen for finishing the first race and for taking great pictures, thanks to Keith Gray and Chris McGuiness for setting marks and patrolling the South Cut and to Amy Gray for line sighting on the signal boat.

Thanks to all racers for participating.
Now let's show up in force for the St. Patrick's Day Regatta, followed by the Elissa Regatta!

General Discussion / Hazard in Trinity Bay
February 22, 2014, 07:35:14 PM
Most abandoned rigs and pipes in Galveston Bay and some in Trinity Bay have been removed.

A hazard in Trinity Bay remains, about 1 mile ENE of Marker "4" of the South Cut remains.
It is a pipe with a diameter of about 10 ", typically exposed 1 to 3 feet with the following approximate location:

N 29 32'986
W 94 52'770

Anna Willits and crew put LYC on the board in the first race but then defending Champion GBCA quickly closed the deal.
The trophy stays with GBCA - congratulations!

Thanks to Kathy Goethe and Judy Fuller for organizing land activities and trophies, thanks to all on the water RC volunteers (Kelly Dees, Scott and John Lacy, Chris Alk, Josh Ghormley, Sue Collier and Joann Willits on Tramp, Team Captain Chris Dees and Charles Broaddus on OJ's Mako (mark set) and Team Captain Dave Christensen and Jim Crate on the pin boat.
The protest committee (John Butler, Walter Caldwell and Andrea Todaro) had nothing to do - thank you racers!

Shaken not Stirred and Figaro, skippered by Mike Lecompte, were spectator boats and Wyatt Smith and Pete Meeh were out there, too.
Good race, thanks everybody,
GW
