Yesterdays, Houston Chronicle, business section finely spelled out what it takes to get a cruise ship to Bayport for one year. $6.7 million, plus no docking fees and a few extras.
I think it would be a great place for a concert venue, a lot closer then the Woodlands, and it already has parking.

Everyone with one or two of those really great looking GBCA drink tumblers should take them to Port A. It will cut down on trash, you will already have a glass when someone offers you a rum drink on their boat and it will show how much GBCA supports the HMR.

If you are looking to crew on a Wed.Night Race, just show up at Seabrook Marina Dry Storage. Show up between 4:30 and 5:30 and just ask around (most boats leave the dock by 5:30). There is generally one or two boats that need crew. Beer helps!

I know I am a Ludit when it comes to computers, but everytime I try to renew my membership, I get an error message "e-mail in use". May I suggest a printable form, for the computer challenged like myself, or those of us who refuse to have a pay-pal account.

Buddy,
Is there something going on with the web site? I have been trying to go to it sense Monday night. The site keeps coming up with an "page error".

Back in the last century, the Rum Rcae was TGIF (Thank God It's Friday). The best I, can remember is the first start was around 1800. After several years, some of the senior members asked that we run a few of the races on Saturday. They wouldn't have to rush down here from the other side of Houston and could involve more families. The race instructions said the start times were for Friday starts, Saturday starts were one hour earlier. You also had to light up your sails for a minute after you crossed the finish. This would be a good practice to maybe reinstate back in the SI's.
After dark Round the Bouys races. FUN!!!

My wife uses the SeaBand wrist bands and has no problems. I have got to the point that if I get sick, I just through up get over it and do what I have to to keep the boat going (I get drug tested regularly).

I have sailed all but 4 or 5 Rum Races for the past 15 years. The only times I have seen one boat luff another is when the boat luff puts itself in in that position and fails to stay clear. The boats that turn out for the TGIF/S races adhere to the Rules of the Road and US Sailing Rules. I, witnessed a 36ft. boat go head to wind at mark 'E' and force a Tayana 52 alter course, on the June 12th race, is that the type of luffing you are questioning?
As for Cruiser's flying Spinnaker, Check the pennant that is being flown off the back of the boat. There are some Cruiser's,out at the same time as the Rum Race actually Cruising and trying out the spinnaker that came with there sail inventory. Besides you don't have to be a racer to fly a spinnaker, just fly a white pennant.
I have been on first place boats and last place and everything in between and I've always enjoyed sharing a rum drink and BS'ing about the fun of sailing and who did what at the party.
have a great day.

Crew Finder / Re: Looking for a boat to crew on

Linda,  Show up at Seabrook Shipyard Dry Storage around 4:30 Wednesday. There generally one or two boats that need crew. Bringing Beer also doesn't hurt. It's a good place to meet other crew.
Good Luck

Back in the last century we use to pass the hat at the after race parties. But, with the change in Liquor laws in this state, we were advised that we would have to get a Liquor license and/or be responsible if something happened to someone after they left the party, or, Open bar, let everyone mix there own drink and the club could not be held responsible.  NOW join GBCA and enjoy the parties.
