I am hoping to limit thread overpopulation by using this one for all CLRA business this year!
Racing starts in one week on April 1.  There is a great crop of "I want to crew" folks and several shifts of perspective among the entrants, so it should be a great year.  Skipper's meeting tonight.  Also for those who have not found it yet, more info on www.clearlakeracing.org.

Crew Finder / Millennium Express shall rise again...
March 20, 2014, 12:24:33 PM
We have completed the critical repairs for Millennium Express and are now ready to join the flock of pickle-dish gatherers on Galveston Bay.  Only issue is finding crew...  So here is our formal request.  If you have any sailing experience or want some, and if the words Port, Starboard, Fore, Aft, etc do not overly frighten you, please let us know, because we want to enter every regatta from now til Turkey Day and kick some...  We will teach and/or learn from you.  We need 8-10 to run the races, and yes we do put up the spinnaker and enough sail to even frighten us.

Hey all you racers out there.  Tonight begins the 2014 Season.  Nooooo, not racing tonight.  It is the beginning of the Wednesday night Seminars, where we trot out experts to tell you how to win races on Wednesdays on Clear Lake.  Tonight Alex Crowell will  shed a bit of light on two of the white knuckle moments of a typical sailboat race.  That is, the Start and Mark Roundings.  So come on out to the Villa Capri at 6:30 and find out...

2013 Registration is open and there will be Seminars, but only a few(see 2913 schedule on the web site).  That's the good news...
Unfortunately in doing it and removing old data, I hit a wrong button and sent out the confirming emails from last year to about thirty people, who are probably very puzzled about this.  Simply sending back the email and confirming it is not enough to register for 2013.  To begin with, registration is never complete without payment, but we also need the database that gets created by the entry form since all old info was removed from the site.
Thanks for your assistance.

I am sure most of you know about this one. We did but not how bad it is.  The old platform which supported the light at the entrance, (Clear Lake #2) is STILL THERE.  We were fighting to finish just inside the new mark and ran HARD AGROUND on the obstruction.  Should have tacked to clear it, but in the foolishness and heat of the moment we tried to finesse it.  DO NOT DO THAT.  Avoid going within ten feet of the new marker. We were at least 5 feet inside it when we stopped cold from about 5 knots.  Be alert, cause we need more lerts.  We need to get some people out with serious tools to remove  it completely or at least put out some sort of temporary buoy to mark it.

General Discussion / Trophy updates
December 08, 2009, 09:47:49 AM
Why is it that the listing of trophies on the GBCA web page has 2004 as its latest date.  Do we no longer award any of these trophies? What's up?  If the "new" format precludes updating that document, start a new one!!

General Discussion / Because someone asked...
November 27, 2009, 11:53:47 AM
Last Spring, in a different life, also boring, I was keeping track of the Annual hi-point scores for sailors in GBCA events.  Someone asked me for an update so here it is.  First Ground rules:
1. Score is the percent of boats you beat in the race or regatta.
2. For series, it is the percent of boats who scored less than you, except that since there are ties, each get the same points. (They beat the same percent of the boats)
3. Last place always gets zero points, even in series, where they actually did beat some one.
4. Each class is scored separately.
5. Includes short handed events with the same rank as full regattas.
6. GBCA results only

To refresh the sceptics memories.  The fifth place boat in a ten boat race gets 50 points.  The third place boat in a four boat race gets 25 points.  The winner in a three boat race gets 67 points. The winner in a 20 boat race gets 95 points.

Includes Icicle, Frostbite, Conundrum, TGIF, RTB, TRW, Single handed, Mixed Doubles, Bank

The winners are...
1   387   Stinger
2   368   Silver Bullet
3   367   Big D
4   363   French Connection
5   347   Sabani
6   325   Dolcetto
7   298   Solaris
8   293   Hot Ticket
9   286   Be Easy
10   218   Tenacity
11   216   Kicks
12   209   Tropical Agression
13   205   Sea Trial
14   199   Bad Girl
15   197   Gambler
16   143   Out Of Site
17   143   Otra Vez
18   141   Further
19   136   Shaken Not Stirred
20   131   footloose

Efficiency award (highest average position for 3 or more starts) goes to Sabani with 4 starts averaging 87.

Galveston Bay Area Racing / NOOD - Big Boats???
July 31, 2009, 11:47:18 AM
Is there going to be a big boat class at the Houston Nood?  Marty is listed as Class Coordinator and has not been heard from.  Greg Way proposed using 66-84  as the class limits.  He has the ulterior motive of wanting proof that his rating is too low.  Maybe there are out of area boats or other boats that are larger and longer than the old L70 rule but rate in the band.  Chiron? Sea Quell?  Or others that would just like to party.  I think we need five boats to even have a chance for an invitation.  I, for one, am willing to race against *#^$%@ J109's if they do not make a class.  How about it?  Who is willing to step up?  Are we

Or am I going to have to charter a J22 and race against Tom Sutton and Larry Blankenhagen anyway???

Level ? 70? How about no rules in this knife fight?  :o
Millennium Express
Leading Edge
Parrot Tales
Gold Rush
J109's
Out of area boats (Dallas? New Orleans, Corpus???)

Level? 30
Mojo
Re-evolution 1D35
J120
J122
King 40
Alinghi cat

Who is in and who is out?

General Discussion / Front page blues
July 09, 2009, 11:16:36 AM
The "look" of GBCA.org has changed again.  One of its most useful features, the "Blues", ie the list of links to both gbca business and other orgs websites has disappeared.  As has a post I made suggesting adding Regatta  Network to the list.  Anyone else miss it.  How do I find the race schedule?  Or am I missing something?

While not a fan of the forum style now, I can tolerate it, but please give directions on finding those links!
Thanks
John
