Skippers and/or Snackticians:
For your convenience Pirate's Alley Cafe will be preparing boat lunches for the Saturday race.  Print and fill out the order form found at
https://www.regattanetwork.com/clubmgmt/regatta_uploads/5294/SandwichOrderForm2012.pdf
and bring it to the Skipper's Meeting.

A race committee volunteer will deliver your lunches to your boat on Saturday morning.
Cool, huh?

I'm just going to leave it at this - 100+ children come out to race in Optimists, Lasers, 420's - and this is a down year.  What do we need to do to get 100+ "adult" boats out for an event?...
How about relieve them from all personal and financial responsibility and pay for everything they need or want? In other words, Time and Money!

Alternate Hotel Info....

GBCA has blocked 10 rooms for Texas Race Week at the Cherotel Grand Mariner in Lake Jackson at a discounted price of $64/night. These rooms will be held until July 12.

We will provide a shuttle to/from Ocean Village for the parties.  Transportation to/from the marina before and after racing will be arranged on an as-needed basis - that is, we should have enough friends with cars to give each other rides!

To reserve your room call Cherotel at 1-800-544-2119 or -979-297-1161.  Ask for the "Texas Race Week" rate.

We'll have fabulous door prizes at the skippers meeting. The earlier you register, the more chances you get.

So for every day you delay, Bee gets one more chance that you don't get.  And he already has alot.

At KW2009 I leased two condos for 8 people for 10 days at a rate of $78/day.
Before I bailed from KW2012 I leased the same two condos for 8 people for 10 days  at a rate of $78/day.
The Ocean Village Hotel is charging $80/day.  Is OVH on the same level as KW?.
I think not.
Bee, I'd bet Ocean Village will give you an even better rate.......for a 10 day rental.....for 8 people.......in January.  ;)

Half of our block of discounted rooms at Ocean Village are already reserved.  Better reserve yours soon!
(remember you must CALL Ocean Village to get the discount; don't book online.)

While you're at it, REGISTER for the dang regatta! You know you're gonna go!  Sure helps us in the planning.  Thanks!
(And the earlier you register, the better your chances of winning a fabulous prize)

Texas Race Week.
This is a great opportunity for you to sail your cruising boat on the ocean, where she was designed to be! If you've ever done the Harvest Moon Regatta you know how fun it is, and how good that sense of accomplishment feels. And I guarantee the party will rival the HM party. Twice.
There is already one cruising boat signed up, so just two more and the Class will be made.  That boat won the regatta last year, but they are vulnerable.  (And if you sign up soon I will let you in on a simple secret to do well!)

So sign up for Texas Race Week, sail in the next two rum races to establish your handicap and get your crew work down.

If you need to borrow any safety equipment, let me know.

Thought I would start this thread for topics of interest for the Cruising Class.
(Bee, please stay out. Thanks.  ;))

The Race committee and PARTY headquartes will be at Ocean Village Hotel in Surfside.  There will be a PARTY Friday night and Saturday night.
Stay at the Ocean Village and you can wander up to your room after the party without having to drive. It would also be a great place for your non-sailing friends and family. They will be able to view the finish on Friday morning and the start and finish on Saturday. Plus it's right on the beach so there's lots to do and see, if sailboat race spectating is, uh, too docile for them.
We'll have a free shuttle to transport you to and from the hotel and marina.

We've secured a discount rate for this hotel, but you have to reserve soon.

Wha!?  I move my boat to literally across the street from GBCA and you move the party across the bridge into another county? I gotta hit the BS button on that one. Very disappointing.
Alternate party plan is on Be Easy. Duane is buying.
How's that? Close enough?

Attention Singlehanders:
Plan to gather at the Classic Cafe bar after racing Saturday for stories, congrats, condolences, maybe some photos and video.
And our Commodore might be giving neck massages as well.

And your FIRST DRINK is on the Classic, courtesy of By.

A hearty Beef Irish Stout Stew with Irish Champ and Irish Soda Bread should make a good base for downing copious amounts of Harp Lager on tap.
