Did I hear Buddy correctly last night? Meeting about the future of Wednesday nights next Tuesday 7:00pm at the GBCA clubhouse?
The meeting is the monthly GBCA Board of Governors meeting.  Senior GBCA members are welcome to attend and listen.

Galveston Bay Area Racing / TRW Slips
July 11, 2011, 03:35:28 PM
Good news: Apparently Galveston is recovering from Ike.
Not so good news: Due to the recovery, Galveston Yacht Basin has leased almost all their sailboat slips.

GYB has a handful of slips on E dock that are already spoken for.

The breakwater we used to raft up to is NOT available due to hurricane damage.

There are slips available with power along West Rd (across the fairway from the boat ramp).  Depth is 6'.  $1.50/ft.

There are slips without power next to the boat ramp. Depth 6'. $1/ft. (this would be convenient to the party/pool area).
Call Rita at 409-762-9689 or 800-866-BUOY to arrange a slip lease.

If you draw over 6', have signed up for the regatta, and are waiting til the last minute to figure out where to put your boat, send me a message or email wcaldwell001 at earthlink.net.

I would like to know how you trained that chicken to do such complex calculations.  Its amazing that it got a 59 for Shaken not Stirred.  That is really hilarious.
So funny I almost forgot to laugh.

And if all the Judges in attendance, socializing, imbibing, and awards are not enough to get you to the party,  we'll have award-winning RED chili and GREEN chile stew with all the fixins prepared by the recently crowned Classic Cafe Super Bowl of Chili Champion.  Not to toot my own horn mind you.

All yachtsmen and yachtswomen of high character and yachting ethics are hereby invited to participate in the Judge Elihu Smails Memorial Regatta to be held concurrently with the Feb 12, 2011 Icicle race.  To enter the Flying Wasp class, simply participate in the Icicle race in a manner becoming of the late Judge Smails.  Ascots are required.  Participating in the Flying Wasp class does not preclude the yacht from racing in the other Icicle classes.

Participants will be judged on style.  The winner will be determined from a panel of Judging Judges.  A prize will be awarded at the after-race party.  All decisions of the Judging Judges are final.  If you have any questions regarding what you should do or not do,  ask yourself, ?What would Judge Smails do??  Then do that.

I have the times that were handed to Jody at the party.  Here is what I have, and it's kind of a mess:
From Katana:
1. #373 "Katana"  13:48:12
2. #291 (no name)
3. Figaro  13:52:22
4. Antares 13:52:29
5. #11 Skalawag

From Makani Kai:
13:57:58

From Shaken Not Stirred:
13:58:55

From a couple of yellow post-it notes (maybe you can identify yourself?)
Us 13:57:37
#4802 13:58:15
#120 13:58:42
Wandering Star 14:01:01

Antares (above) was racing in the spinnaker (white flag) class, not in the club handicap.
Shaken Not Stirred finished right behind Chiron, which finished behind Stellar Of Course.

And who says we couldn't offer an alternate class on the same weekend of a one-design/phrf race that might utilize the W/L marks for the first and last leg, along with several fixed marks thrown in for some distance, agility and scenery change in the middle, using a combined score of best course time and best grilled shrimp entry for an overall winner???  We could start with everyone else, finish with everyone else, and have the judging at the clubhouse after the racing.  That trophy could be AWESOME!
Do the shrimp have to be caught while racing? That might favor the spin boats.

Any of you club handicappers coming out to play this weekend?
Figaro? Little B? Tropicale? Makani? Skalawag? Wandering Star? Katana?  Envie? Amore? er, Curmudgeon?

We could probably talk the PRO into giving us longer courses around fixed marks.

I won't fly a spinnaker; well, maybe give it a try on Sunday - that should be a show!
