Bee, I think its called "frame grab" that does the job.

Darin, online scoring is clearly the way to go.
(I assume the Rum Race SI's will be updated accordingly.)

This might be a good time and appropriate topic for some inter-club cooperation.
Maybe the RC chairs for Heald Bank, HYC Offshore and GBCA Offshore would consider coordinating efforts and offer ORC for spin classes?

Sooner or later every PRO encounters scoring errors.
They can usually be resolved in the Corinthian Spirit by talking to relevant finishers.
No reason to throw out a good race.

Galveston Bay Area Racing / GBCA Jr Regatta
June 12, 2016, 09:57:58 PM
Our juniors did an excellent job on Saturday. It was good to see a lot of junior crew as well, not only skippers! Well done GBCA (Bob Hunkins et al.)!
I have posted photos on my Facebook site and assume that they are available to everybody via friends or friends of friends....

Great idea Gary - unfortunately I did not save the Icicle SI's.
Can you give me the start time for handicap 96?

If anybody wants to race on Big Fig tomorrow (PHRF spin, non-sprit), give me a call.

Scott, will the PHRF Spin-Distance races be held in the upper bay (HYC area) or in main Galveston Bay (Rum Race area)?

General Discussion / Croatia Cruising
January 29, 2016, 06:50:52 PM
To the cruisers among GBCA racers!

Next Saturday, February 6, Linda and I will give a ppt. presentation of our two week cruise along the southern coast of Dalmatia, last September.
This is one of the most desirable cruising destinations in the Mediterranean.
It is near shore blue water sailing with several attractive destinations like Dubrovnik, Korcula (home town of Marco Polo), Hvar and Split.
Location: LYC, Commodore's room.
Time: 13:00

Plenty of time to get ready for the GBCA Commodore's Ball later in the day!

Bob, I can take the Ranger out after 4:00 PM.
Call me if someone else has  retrieved it before that time.

Special thanks to RC/Tramp crew - must have been a bit bouncy at anchor....
What wind speed did you record in the stronger puffs?

Maarten, very thoughtful comment, thank you.
I was not part of the RC discussions and the Figaro crew was disappointed at the decision not to race.
However, I think this was a wise decision. Apparently, a major factor was the weather forecast beyond the race - affecting the return trip. At this time - Wednesday, 11:00 PM - the Sailflow forecast still shows 25 to 30 knots of wind near Port Aransas on Sunday and Monday morning.
Many skippers, like myself, might have considered leaving the boat down in Port A and bringing her back the following weekend or later. Yet, the City Marina does not have enough slips to accommodate a large fleet, and rafting up for days in strong winds is not a practical solution.
Another interesting point was brought up in a pre-race discussion:
Imagine a decent start in 15 knot winds but an offshore breeze kicking up 13 ft waves. Combine this with a strong outgoing tide in the Aransas jetties and possibly poor visibility due to rain and you might have conditions at the finish that might be challenging even for experienced offshore racers - not to mention some fair weather cruisers.
No Race Committee wants to see boats ending up on jetties or the beach.

I may be mistaken but I believe this year THREE Bacardi classes will be offered:

Bacardi Superior - sport boats, including Stinger, I presume;
Bacardi Heavy Oak - you are way to light and nimble for that class, Bee... and
PHRF spin for the average racing Joe...(that's also definitely not you, Bee);

Andrea, please correct me if I am wrong.
