Cabin fever....Perhaps..
Oh, come on Ed. You just need a fix. Stinger will be happy to give you that if you like. A nice Christmas present from the Stinker Boat.
BTW I would like to see what that thing of yours looks like down below. Might be good for a home away from home.
For your reading and sailing pleasure, please find the 2012 instructions attached.
The scheduled race dates for the 2012 Icicle Series are as follows:
January 7 - Standard Course
January 14 - Reverse Course
January 21 - Standard Course
January 28 - Reverse Course
March 10 - Standard Course
Hope to see everyone out there.
Please note Ed. I don't want to sleep on your boat I would like to get something like it for me.
Thanks Christopher!
John ;D
You were making me nervous Bee!
I tried to open the Icicle SI's and all I get is arab symbols and clutter. I'm confused already!
They open for me fine. Chris saved it in Word 2010 format (*.docx) and you're probably using an older version.
Chris, can you re-save as a Word 97-2003 format (*.doc) ?
This is why they make pdf files. Use Open Office and get of the Devil's Software Company.
Or, just save as a .pdf from Word 2010. Agree with Bee, ,pdf is a much better choice.
Sorry guys, I did try to upload the .pdf version, but due to size limitations the .pdf wouldn't go. So, you get the word version.
I've back saved to word 97-2003 version and uploaded again. Please use this file as there are also a couple of edits to the links from the previous file.
Let's go sailing!!
PDF version of SI's have been uploaded to home page for GBCA. Check the link there.
I wonder if the will be any ice on the boats for 2012 Icicle series, like there was in 2011? First time I ever slipped on ice when I stepped on my boat. I was born in the south and I don?t like the cold. Was any else in the 2011 boat parade other than me from the GBCA?
KATANA
I remember pulling solid sheets of ice about an inch thick out of the Soling last year.
I'm not sure if this technology is worthwhile but...
fractilization ist verboten
There was one Icicle race, either last year or the year before, where the entire keelstub/sump was full and frozen solid.
And it was still frozen the next day ... :o ...
Should I havedeclared that as ballast to PHRF-GB?
...
Indeed you should have. I understand that under the proper political conditions one get seconds for an AC. I should think that ice in the sum would qualify as an AC.
Naw. The ice is considered a consumable... for the rum drinks!
Darn. I was about to go and fill Stinger up with water.
We hope to be able fly our spinnaker this year in the Icicle series, Finally got the pole and gear set up and now the learning curve begins.
A few questions:
Can you fly a spinnaker in the club handicap fleet?
If so does the handicap number change?
If we will get a new rating I please let me know so we can race next Saturday.
Or, if I need to race in PHRF Spin class let me know and what my rating would be.
I look forward to racing the icicle series again this year.
Ron Eddleman
If you are already rated in the GBCA Cruising Class, like Ron and decide you want to try spinnaker, whip it out. Your rating will change depending on its effectiveness. Just ask Caldwell ;)
If you want to race in PHRF spin class, then you'll need a current rating from PHRFGB. Good luck!

Admittedly I'm a bit of a techno geek, so I think it's really cool. You certainly could add it to the standard registration process.

Hey guys, wanted to know if the J mark from the Rum Races is the same as the H mark for Icicles.
-Travis
It is not. The H mark is almost due East of Markers 1 and 2 at the end of the Kemah channel.
Travis,
H & J are not the same. J is SE from Kemah 1/2; H is nearly due east; E is the same as the Rums.
This makes for a shorter 8.7 mile triangle course for the Icicles, vs. the 13.5 mile triangle for the Rums.
SI have the GPS coods.
Looks like shorts and light air for Icicle #1. I can do this!!!
Grilled hot dogs and adult beverages on the patio and Texans football in the clubhouse after the race.
From 2 it is right at 2.62 miles to H at a bearing of 083...

Well - let's not forget about the other reason for sailing this Saturday....it gives you a good excuse to come by the clubhouse afterward, where I'll be whooping up some nice, hot RED or GREEN chili.. :o..and we'll have a merchandise table set up for all of you that didn't get what you wanted for Christmas. Come shop with us! Bring your cash or check. And while you're at it, think about renewing your membership to our great little club. We'll be happy to assist.
Tabasco as well? I like the fire breathing kind.
In my past life there was two alarm and three alarm chili. Always liked the three alarm kind best, but Bev you do really good chili so I know I will like it.
Me thinks we be needin' the hot stuff. It looks like it's gonna be a genuine Icicle race!
I'll make sure you won't confuse my chili with spaghetti sauce.
We have two new boats registered in the cruising class. Did GBCA renew the contract with the SUPER CHICKEN?? I'm sure he is do a raise.
The Super Chicken tried to cross the road Sunday AM and almost didn't make it. The ratings are updated at the usual place:

In this Saturday's Icicle race there will be a special class for TMCA (Texas Mariners Cruising Association) boats. There will be about six boats.
They will be flying TMCA burgees on their backstays. It is red, white, and blue so shouldn't be confused with the other class flags.
TMCA has assigned their handicaps, and they will be joining us for the after-race libations and story-telling. So party on!

Walter and Greg get to start on Sunday! Maybe it's time for a separate cruising spin class. They had 9 last week..
How often do we start and finish on the same point of sail? Not too!
And we were lucky that those two legs happened to be downwind. Plus Greg sailed leg 2 perfectly, and tacked right before the big lefty, laying H mark close hauled. Turns out we way overstood trying to get to the new breeze first. Still probably the fastest way there.
I think it's time the GBCA Cruising class got more organized. Let's have a meeting after the race Saturday. All you cruisers come find me at the party.
What a great day to go sailing, many thank to all! And the dogs at the party were great!

Does understanding systems with prime sub bases reduce the number of different kinds of people?
Bee,
If the delta e in my Forrier Transform is small enough I can reduce out nearly all pertubative effects and end up with a pretty homogenous population that can be very predictive. In a binary universe, 10 choices are all you need.
The delta in your Fourier Transform only controls the maximum frequency.

"Negative Ghost Rider". Delta e controls the convergence criteria and thus, the end of the recursivly interative algorithm. An FFT has to converge somewhere...
No it does not. It is simply a very fast method for calculating of the transform of discrete signals. It was developed by Karl Frederick Gauss in December of 1805 with the comment "Its a very interesting algorithm but too difficult for humans to compute."
And all of that makes the boat go faster how???
Hmm. Good point. I will shut up now
Hee Hee
Oh, what the heck, using the FFT allows people like Larry Ellision to spend super bucket loads of money doing complex fluid dynamics to create a boat and a wing to win back an old pile of silver.

The cat died about 6 hours into the experiment due to oxygen deprivation! Remember, it was a sealed box!
