So why is there a late fee for this race?  Seems a bit early to start that don't you think?

The NOR says the late fee begins on July 16, so there must be a glitch in the registration setup. we will fix it promptly.

Hotel Information for Texas Race Week and Slip Rental at Galveston Yacht Club.

I am sorry to inform you that Comfort Inns will not be giving us Group Rates for Texas Race Week dates of July 22nd, 23rd, and 24th.  You can make individual reservations with Comfort Inn at Stewart Beach (this is the RC location and very close to Galveston Yacht Club) by calling them at 409-766-7070 or 800.4CHOICE.  TRW has always used this hotel, but the impression I got is with the influx of tourist trade due to the oil spill along the LA coastline they did not want to give us group rates.  The rates they have is $104.99 for Thursday night (7/22) and then $144.00 for Friday and Saturday night.  If you plan on reserving rooms down in Galveston I would suggest calling now to make sure you get a reservation.

For the Skipper's that plan on getting a slip at Galveston Yacht Club:The marina rate is $1.50/foot/night (regular rate: $2.00).  They will begin to take reservations two weeks before the event.
Boats will have to fill out a temporary lease agreement, which is standard for all transients now.  You can call Rita at 409-762-1253 or 800-866-2869 to make slip arrangements.  Please note again that they will not take reservations until two weeks before the event.

We've got parties planned, so don't hesitate...sign up and make your reservations to sail and party!  See you there!

I have the temporary lease agreement, which I'll make available from the regatta network official notice board.

It's not a big deal to fill out.  They had a an "issue" with a transient boater, so now everyone has to acknowledge that they understand what a dock is, how boats can move, etc.

Some big iron has signed up for TRW: Nefte Gaz, Dulcenia, Mojo...

Hydrodyne needs some of her fellow level 70's to come out and play!  Also, J109, J105, 1d35...
This event is right up your alley!

In addition, the non-spin class is shaping up nicely.

It's day racing out of Galveston, so you can let the horses run free.

Stop thinking about it this holiday weekend and sign up (http://www.regattanetwork.com/clubs/gbca.html)!

Bee - Did GYC have slips available in the past that they charged for?  I thought everyone tied up and rafted up along the wall.  Also thanks for clearing up the Three Fat Brothers for me.  I agree they do a superb job recording our racing activities for posterity!

As far as I know they had limited slips available but only if you reserved about 3 years in advance.  Always were a bit nasty when one asked.  I think IKE changed all that.  A number of boats went the way of the great sailing club in the sky, never to return.  What I have heard is that you can now expect to get a slip if you call early --- which I intend to do.

Since the HYC offshore race was cancelled before the entry deadline, there is a possibility that boats planning to enter in order to accumulate points toward the Texas Navy Cup could have been materially prejudiced.  The series scoring for the Texas Navy Cup this year has been changed to the following:

?The Texas Navy Cup will be awarded to the PHRF Spinnaker yacht with the lowest PHRF fleet score combining all races of the GBCA Texas Race Week and the LYC Heald Bank race (PHRF Fleet).  Yachts that did not participate in the LYC race shall have the score of 7 (LYC PHRF Fleet+1) added for purposes of Texas Navy Cup scoring.  The highest score of the combined series shall be excluded.?

The above will be included in the SI.  A preliminary version will be available online before the skipper?s meeting.

No word from Gambler J122 or the other 1d35 in Dallas...
If you know those guys...tell them to sign up!

Also, need a few more non-spinnaker to round out the mix.

Yes sir.  For the third year, New York Pizzeria will be the official sandwich (and giant  28" pizza) provider of TRW.  We'll have the order form online before the skipper's meeting.  You don't have to be at the meeting to order.  You will send it and CC info directly to them and food will be delivered to GYC each morning.

;D Good Morning!  Just an early reminder that EVENT TICKETS will be on sale at the Skipper's meeting being held this Friday (7/16) at the GBCA Clubhouse.  The event tickets are $25.00/person which covers 3 days of free food, rum and beer at the Poolside post parties after each race including the Saturday evening awards party.  Can't beat a deal like that!  Everyone enjoyed the Benno's Fish/shrimp dinner last year, so we have brought Benno's back to feed us on Saturday evening.

Skipper's will receive 2 event tickets in their packets, but be sure to encourage your crew to buy their tickets at the Skipper's meeting.  It helps me get a better headcount for the parties if I can get these tickets sold in advance, so whether you are racing or just coming down to party please stop by the clubhouse this Friday and buy your event ticket.  Tickets do not go down in price over the course of the 3 days, so take advantage of the great price for all 3 days of partying!

Just as a reminder and for those of you that will be newbies this year.....You will need to present your ticket when you enter the poolside area at which time you will receive that evenings wristband (wristbands only good for one night), so don't forget to bring your ticket with you.  The bartendars and food servers are informed to not serve anyone unless they have that evenings wristband....no exceptions.  If you left it on the boat or in your car..go back and get the ticket.  The volunteers that take the time out of partying to assist with checking you in appreciate your courtesy and understanding.  With that said.......Good Luck on the Water and come back ready to cool off in the pool with cool rum drinks and cold beer!!

Kathy,

With the exception of two of our crew, everyone is out of town.  But you'll be able to count us in for a good number of tickets (11 crew on the boat)

On that note, hell of an A-fleet at this event!   7 boats that rate between 42 and -15?   That's Key West kinda racing!  Nice job, this is going to be a very fun regatta.

You betcha!  BUT, we are ordering limited amounts of t-shirts this year, so buy early.  I'm hoping to have the t-shirts for the Skipper's meeting, but if not, they will be on sale down in Galveston.  T-shirts will be $20/each.  The back of the shirts will have this year's artwork that you see on the poster.

Speaking of sale merchandise! We will also have the GBCA Tervis Tumblers available for sale down in Galveston.  The 16oz for $20.00 and the 24oz for $25.00.  What better way to fill your rum drink at the bar than with the GBCA Tumbler!!  The ingredient levels of the TRW specialty drink, Mar-Kat, is based on the 24oz tumbler (for those of you remembering our great concoction)!

Remember all sales must be cash or check!!!

In other news, if you haven't seen the registration, it's at 20 so far, with some sweet spin and non-spin rides lined up.

Is that the same Alessandra of old in the non-spin class?

Skippers meeting is this Friday GBCA Clubhouse at 1900

Answer:  Ya gotta come to TRW and WIN ONE!

That's right folks - 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place boat after Saturday's totals will be able to chill their beverages with ice cubes from their own ice bucket.  And in true GBCA fashion we hope you share your libations with 4th through last place :-)

Check 'em out at the skipper's meeting tonight.  We have tumblers for sale so you can keep your MarKat's cold too.

 8) TRW Housekeeping Notes!

Kevin and I took a cruise down to Galveston yesterday to turn in the sandwich orders some of you submitted at the Skippers meeting (while sampling some pizza and other delicious menu items for lunch).  REMINDER to the Skippers, if you are planning to order sandwich?s please have them FAXED TO NY PIZZERIA no later than Tuesday.  We just want to make sure all the orders are ready for Thursday morning.  I will be picking up the sandwiches and will have them down at the marina around 8:30 a.m. each morning.  I do not deliver to the boats, so you need to find my white Honda Accord Crosstour which will be parked at E Dock near the sailboats each morning.

Also, for those of you not familiar with the GYC pool area.  The only entry to the pool is the back gate that faces the marina.  This will be the only gate open for entry to the pool.  The front of the building has been completely locked down since IKE.  There is parking along the back gate area, so save a walk around the building.

NO GLASS CONTAINERS ALLOWED IN THE POOL AREA (except the rum bottles GBCA supplies at the palapa bar).  Pool Rules will be posted, but please do not bring any glass containers in the pool area (no beer bottles please).  Also, another important pool rule to remember, no swimming in the pool after 9pm due to no lighting in the pool.  Believe me, the water gets dark at night and people are drinking, so please respect the Life Guard, Jillian if she tells you, ?out of the pool please.?  We want everyone to have a fun time, but we also want everyone to be safe.

We?ll have t-shirts ($20), tervis tumblers (16oz=$20, 24oz=$25) and EVENT tickets ($25) for sale on Thursday.  You MUST have an event ticket to get the wristband which will allow you to receive food, rum and beer for all three nights.  One ticket=3 Nights!  PLEASE BRING CASH OR CHECK?NO CREDIT CARDS!!!

Let?s have a GREAT time sailing and partying!!!  See you in Galveston!

I'm asking for directions now so I'll have less running around to find things when I get there, and so I was hoping for something more specific. I'll be docked on E Pier?is there an ice machine at the end of that pier or so far the other side of the marina that I might as well just buy ice when I'm at the grocery store anyway? Also, how much it will cost inside the marina?

I just called GYB Fuel Dock (they sell ice too).  The 40 lb bags at GYB Fuel Dock are $6.50 plus tax.  They take credit cards or cash.  The bait store also sells ice, but they are closed for the day and I couldn't get a hold of anyone.  I know I use the fuel dock location for the parties because I need those BIG bags of ice!!  Just thought you might want to know.  It is a long trek from E dock, but not longer than going to a grocery store!

We usually pick up the ice by car, park down by the dock(s) and transfer the ice from there.  When we tied up on the pier it was a bit of a hoof but I can't believe it will be that far from the slips.  Sorry I don't have specific directions but as you enter the marine and just before you get to the boat slips you take a left and that takes you directly to the bait shop.  I seem to remember that you can buy ice in much smaller sizes then 40# but I don't actually remember what sizes they sell.

BTW Jim, your link does not work.

We're looking for a few reliable volunteers who are not racing (or RC) in the morning or early afternoon of Thursday 7/22 to help Kathy and her crew help prepare the cabana area near the GYB pool.
You might be asked to run an errand or two on the island, simple stuff

A question has been asked regarding the SI.  Question and answer may be found on the official notice board:
https://www.regattanetwork.com/clubmgmt/applet_notice_board.php?regatta_id=2983 (https://www.regattanetwork.com/clubmgmt/applet_notice_board.php?regatta_id=2983)

Question: What is mark 1C?

Answer: Mark 1C is Galveston Entrance Buoy 1C (Green).  From the start, outbound, green buoys are "11" - "9" - "7" - "5" - "3" - "1C".

Question:  Will mark ?Y? be in the water before the starting sequence and will its coordinates be broadcast?

Answer: Mark ?Y? will be dropped to form a windward-leeward leg between it and mark ?O?.  It is likely that it will not be dropped before the start sequence.  The race committee will attempt to broadcast the approximate bearing and distance from ?O? to ?Y? on VHF channel 69.  Lat/Lon coordinates for mark ?Y? will not be broadcast.

If your going to use a slip at the Yacht Basin, my guess is that it will be in one of the two marked areas.  The one on the North is E-Dock I think.  Anyway Stinger will be in E37.

Will get day 2 and 3 loaded today.

I would just like to say thanks to Scott for all the work he does on Tramp.  Yes we both own the boat but he does all of the work, without Scott there would be no Tramp!  Thanks!  :-*

This may be true John, but I believe that both of you deserve considerable praise for what you do.

GBCA has the best RC boat combo there is.  The pictures you take are absolutely delightful, and the fact that Scott keeps everything going makes for a tremendous welcomed combination.

Big time thanks to both of you for everything you do.

My thanks to the Race Committee this weekend for a nice job of providing us with a challenging series of races. Nice pictures John. I think Scott should get the alligator back on the job.

Amen, thanks to all. It's takes a lot of hard work by a lot of people to pull these things off. It's called giving back to the sport, thanks again.

I didn't get as much of the initial shrimping action as I thought, but you get the idea.
The soundtrack seemed appropriate  ;)
