HUGE kudos and thanks to Scott Lacy for touching up the new (to us) trophy cases.  We got 'em filled up with the silver, and they are looking great!

5 Cruising boats signed up for the Spring Regatta so far.  Can we make this the largest class?
You're not going to get better weather than this weekend!  Plus you get a cool shirt with your entry, not to mention a good party.

Galveston Bay Area Racing / Veracruz 2014
February 28, 2013, 02:24:05 PM
From Gary Anderson:
The governor of the state of Veracruz has made contact with GBCA and LYC to ask them to see about reactivating the Veracruz Regatta in 2014.   He is offering all support with government entities, a new marina that is now built (much more secure), hosting of the awards banquet, setting up tours to locations in the state of Veracruz.  The governor sent a group of 6 officials including the director of tourism for the state, the director of ports, his finance minister and others to visit with us and see what sailors would like to see in order to get the regatta going again.   We need input from those who might be interested in sailing this regatta again.

The GBCA Board met with Gary to discuss resurrecting the Regata de Amigos in 2014.  I understand that LYC is surveying their members regarding this as well. We would like GBCA members' input, as well as anyone who would be interested in racing to Veracruz.

The three hour round trip from my home in Katy TX to the boat and back was starting to get to me(getting sleepy), so I could not spend as much time at the boat that was needed. All my old crew as now on FireWater and now me as well. I look forward to being crew, so now when something brakes I just tell Walter ?you really need to get that fixed before the next race?. Also I did not sell the kites with the boat so I have two kites(one like new with a sock, and the ?A? kite you see in the photo) for sale if any wants to buy them before I list them on e-bay, just e-mail me. Terry
There you go, Ed!   ;)

General Discussion / GBCA Trophy Case(s)

GBCA has acquired two gently used trophy cases to house our abundance of silver. They could use some touching up on the wood trim on the front of them.
If any of you have a knack for this, take a look at them in the clubhouse this Saturday, and let me know if you'd like to volunteer your talent!

#1 - in 2010 very few of the boats in the class flew spinnakers. Now it seams that about 1/3 do. Which is great except when your a non-spin boat and the winds allow flying the chute on 2 of 3 legs. Might consider splitting into a spin and non-spin cruising class for Icicles and Rum Races.

Did the first-to-finish boat the last two races (Skalawag) fly a chute?  I don't know, I couldn't see that far ahead!

GBCA Performance Cup this weekend.

Where are you guys? Why haven't you signed up yet?

Waiting to see what the weather is?  It will be perfect.

Is it the cost?  Is it the courses? Are you waiting to see who else signs up?
Planning these things is alot easier for the organizers and better for the class if you sign up earlier.
The racing and the party will be even better than the rum races.

I thought the Cruising/Club Handicap class was getting stronger, but now I'm not so sure.
Let me know why you show up in droves for the rum races, but not the other GBCA regattas.

I'm considering organizing a "Triathalon" for September 8th. This team sporting event will consist of:
1. Golf tournament
2. Regatta
3. Poker tournament
... all in one day.

The teams will consist of four people. We'll play golf in the morning, have lunch at the Classic, sail in the rum race, and play poker after the rum race.  The cost will cover the golf, lunch, and maybe some prize money.  Winner take all.  The "regatta" portion will coincide with the rum race, so you will still be competing in the rum race.  Only caveat would be you need to have all the golfers on the boat.
I'll need to get this rolling very soon if we're going to do it, so...
Who's interested?
