Does anyone know how to get ahold of him?

We're working with several of the local Sea Scouts and some of the kids have a question that I can't come up with a good answer for.

We've been racing non-spin for now and the kids are wanting to learn how the rating system works.  Getting the basics of TOD comparisons were easy and then they started asking why the ratings are what they are.

Now my dumb luck, we're racing against the 1 tonner.  She's being sailed by good sailors who are good people and the certainly don't make many mistakes.

So to their question is how she gets the 140s rating she has.  My initial answer was there's a formula that gives a base rating and then the local board members take local conditions into account and derive a base number.  Then the teenager asks that wonderful question "Why/How".

This page at Brown University was made known to me and after reading it (especially the last paragraph), I'll admit I'm over my head on this answer.

Was there a change to the rules that allows two spinnakers?  I'm just curious as I was under the impression this was not allowed since it's flying multiple headsails.  This is meant for information only.  She did look cool flying down the channel.

It was done in Joomla 1.5  When you count all the code level 'tweeks' that were applied it won't upgrade to 2 much less 3.  Poor John and Scott are probably going to have to start over.

While Wordpress and Concrete are good. John has a working understanding of Joomla.  It might be easiest to use latest Joomla with a 3 column template and some widgets to hold it all together.  They do this on a volunteer basis after all.

This Saturday is Clear Lake Sailing Club's Waiting for the Great Pumpkin Regatta on Clear Lake.

This group attends many of our events (the 3rd place boat in Club Handicap for Rum Races this year with the yellow shirts), many of the portsmouth and Catalina 22 sailors on Wedsnday night and others.

They are a 501 3(c) dedicated to teaching people to sail & race and have classes every spring.  This is a one day event that was started in 1970.  The NOR & Registration link are located on their website just to the right of the banner for the regatta.  I hope to see some of ya'll out there on saturday!

J mark removal began today.  I posted a pic on FB about it, but they had about 20% of it gone by this evening.

Bob, Jody and their boat show manager Dave are bringing the L&A booth to the Jazzfest & Boatshow this weekend.

Bob is very involved with Sail America and their work with our In The Water boat show & trying to bring it back to its glory days.  Bob was really impressed with TMCA and the participation in their Spring Fling and he's focusing a lot of time on our little pond now.

It would be a big help if some of us could go to the show, check out the cool boats, cars, planes and listen to some good music and let Bob & crew know we appreciate their efforts in our area.

There was a lot of discussion of this on the TMCA site.  Someone called them and yes it's legit, it's been around for a while but never enforced. TPWD is going to start ticketing this summer and the 'Texas Waters' that they plan to enforce on is ALL Texas waters upto the 3 mile offshore limit. It's a $200 fine if they write you up.

Interestingly enough, when the TMCA member asked the State what the money is for, they were told that the fees just barely cover the cost of printing, issuing and managing the decals.   

We had a great time.  A bit more wind than we wanted but thanks to all those that gave their time and effort both on and off the water to make this weekend a great time with friends.   Good racing and great parties!

Congrats to the winners and hopefully we'll see most everybody soon!

What is considered the NASA Channel?

Its a branch off of the Clear Lake Channel at G "23 which gives access to the Hilton.

If you look down Space Center while sitting at the Nasa light very carefully, you'll notice the NASA channel lines up with the road.  There's a dock for a barge at the end of the street (the tie up pilings are still there).  It was built to bring the Saturn V rocket to the park back in the late 60s early 70s.  My Dad was working for TRW when they built it and has pictures of them bringing the rocket stages ashore.

He owns/lives on a Morgan 382 named Catharsis.  She's over on C dock at Portofina marina.  He's a Hodgkins Lymphoma survivor (from 5 years ago) and had a bone marrow transplant after 9 rounds of Chemo/Radiation.  A few weeks ago, his body quit producing white blood cells and he's working on holding on for 4-6 weeks until another blood marrow transplant.  They've already found him a 10/10 donor.  The fun part is he's maxed out his insurance and they won't pay the approx $500,000 for a second bone marrow transplant.

He's sailed several HMR regattas and when he's healthy he grabs a few friends every wed night and gets a corner table at the turtle club and cheers every boat that rounds the finish mark headed to the next leg.

Between this thread and some on some other boards we've already got about 10 units being donated.  The folks at the marina down on Boliver have the Blood Drive Van headed out there in the near future if anyone is interested in going down there. (just let me know and I'll go get the dates and exact location, I also think they maybe doing the BBQ thing too).
