May 4-5 will be the 24th anniversary of the Keels & Wheels Concours d' Elegance at Lakewood Yacht Club.

This is a fantastic event that benefits the Today's Harbor for Children. I know of a few of GBCA members that will have their boat's and/or cars presented. I will have my wooden Tornado displayed and I know "Leading Edge" will be "where the party never ends". But more importantly, it is a great way to spend the day wondering around admiring the hard work these people have put into their passion. They will have vendors scattered around for you to spend some money as well.

You can get more information at www.Keels-Wheels.com

I saw a post on FB about someone who hit it. they claim it is a demasted sailboat that is 200-250 yards inland of Marker #5. They claimed to have seen the stanchions and lifelines.

Be careful my friends...

Scott -
Can you say when you hit this obstruction, i.e. time and date?  Was the tide very low at the time you hit it?

See Phillip Kropf's post on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/475834575950536/photos/pb.475834575950536.-2207520000.1551210735./1047646992102622/?type=3&theater

Two different side-scan sonar surveys of the area were done on Feb 25 by Teichman Group, and on Feb 24 by US Army Corps of Engineers and neither survey was able to find anything.  They are both quick to say they can't absolutely rule out a obstruction buried partially in the mud, but they couldn't find it.

I have not hit it... someone else claims to have. I've heard a couple of stories about it.. one from a sport fisher.

Galveston Bay Area Racing / Obstruction in Kemah Channel
February 25, 2019, 08:23:19 PM
Some of you might have seen the FB thread about an obstruction in the Kemah channel in between markers 5 and 6.

From someone who hit the obstruction, the coordinates are 29° 32.991'N and 095° 0.463'W.

I have seen posts about prop blades being broken off to hull damage.  I have reached out to one of our divers to see if they would be willing to dive it and find out what it really it. From the coordinates, it appears to be center of the channel.

Galveston Bay Area Racing / Re: FREE SEMINARS

Do you ever wonder how the leaders jump out in front?

Next seminar is this Wednesday....  come learn go fast secrets from Farley and some in-house guests.

If you have never been to any of these seminars, you learn much more than what the topic starts as. People ask some fantastic questions that spark further in-depth conversations.

Come find out how to get in front, and stay there....

Y'all note the earlier entry in this forum about ORC Measurement. We're up to eleven boats being measured! Bring on more!!

I ageee that ORC is a much better system. We need the ones who have the certificate to enter the bay races and self promote it. Come race Spring Series Mardi Gras Regatta as ORC.

As some of you heard, I am working with the other clubs to establish a Women's Series on Galveston Bay.

We are not adding anymore races on Galveston Bay, but merely scoring the existing races as a series to be awarded at the end of the year. We will have the notice of series out soon.

Right now, there are 5 women's regattas on Galveston Bay. We are not changing any of the requirements for the individual regatta trophies, but looking to expand some of the criteria to qualify for an overall trophy.

The qualifying regattas are:
- HYC Mermaid Regatta
- HYC Catherine Spiller
- HYC Fairfax Moody
- GBCA Women's
- TASS Carol Becker
