Is it possible to get a .ics version of the calendar?   I would like to put it in my base calendar.

Let me check with the ones smarter than me to see how we can convert from the google calendar. I haven't figured out a way to do it, yet..

I second Nick. Known him for a couple of decades and he has surveyed my boats, on both sides of the sale.

It is that time of year again...

The Sailing Instructions for the Icicle Series will be out soon. The good news is they are the same as last year.

Galveston Bay Area Racing / Chili Chase Regatta
December 06, 2021, 11:20:45 AM
After a slight issue with Regatta Network, results are posted: https://www.regattanetwork.com/event/23521#_newsroom+results

What a great turnout; 29 boats with even a boat registering for the regatta the morning of the event while RC was setting the marks. We saw wind from 6 to 16 knots and shifts that ranged about 20 degrees. The Blue fleet finished up just after 2 pm and the Yellow fleet finished up before 4pm. The Blue Fleet sailed the 14.27 nm Bowtie course while the Yellow Fleet sailed the 19.68 nm Star Course.

Thank you to everyone who came out and raced as well as joining us at GBCA for the infamous Chili Judging.

I want to thank By and Brad at Classic Cafe for donating a huge amount of chili for the party.

Thank you to our chili judges: Terri Gale, Mary Miller, Greg Casamayor, Tom Meeh, and Beverly Wright. Their indigestion thanks you. Thank you to Patrick Fiega for loaning himself and his boat for doing Race Committee; as well as making chili for the Race Committee while we were waiting for everyone to finish.

Thank you to the Race Committee of: Kelley Dees, Greg Casamayor, Amy Craig, Caitlyn Tuma, and Patrick Fiega.

Our Chili winners are:
Made on the Boat: Andrea Hanson
Made elsewhere: David Christensen

We look forward to seeing everyone on Icicle Series #1 January 8th.

I was asked what is the difference of Deed of Gift and Memorandum of Purpose.
A Deed of Gift, has a family member or an out side sponsor, example; as in the Performance Cup, it was first sponsored by Wells Fargo Bank in Seabrook, when they dropped sponsorship Compass Bank picked it up. But the Deed of Gift stands as the guide to the format that the event is run.
A Memorandum of Purpose is an inside the organization (club) sponsored event is a guide to the format that the event is run, example would be the J. Kevin Box Memorial Conundrum Regatta.
Both are suppose to be read and accepted in open meeting to the membership. Again any changes go through the membership, this can be in open meeting or survey of the membership, and if it is still a sponsored event, through the sponsor.
And then we have the Rum Races that were never codified and constantly changing year to year, to the changing needs and conditions and at the whim of who ever is Fleet Captain at the time.

Gary,

There have been no changes to the Deed of Gift for the GBCA Bay Singlehanded Regatta or Martin Bludworth Trophy GBCA Mixed Doubles Regatta. The deed for the "GBCA Bay Singlehanded Regatta" states:

This trophy, a ship's wooden block donated by C&C Sailmakers, shall be awarded to the overall spinnaker fleet winner of GBCA's Singlehanded Regatta. The detailed requirements for the overall winner shall be established by GBCA. The winning skipper must be a current senior member of GBCA. This trophy is the property of GBCA. It will be displayed in or near the GBCA trophy case. "Take-Home" trophies will be awarded. These trophies will be paid for from the GBCA general fund.

This Deed of Gift is confirmed on the 11 day of January, 2005.

Per the Deed of Gift, GBCA dictates how the race is done; including the course. The course and format has changed over the years to accommodate the constant changing culture of sailboat racing on Galveston Bay. If you go and reread the bylaws,  "The Fleet Captain's primary job for the Club is to develop an overall racing schedule for the Club to serve as liaison between the Club and other sailing organizations regarding scheduling and conducting of sailing events and to plan and conduct regattas and races organized by the Club." How an event is run and the format has always been up to the Fleet Captain. There have been cases where a Chairperson for a regatta was designated and they would run it under the Fleet Captain.

If you want a copy of the DoG for your records, I can email you one.

When you get into organizing and running events, you will realize that the culture is constantly changing and cannot focus on satisfying just one class. We have to consider what fleets are active, what type of racing do people want to do, how active will racers be at a party, and/or what hazards may be present or surfaced, If you recall, the purpose of the club (Article 1 Section 2 of Bylaws) is "to promote sailing and racing of cruising sailboats in a sportsmanlike manner; to foster the arts of navigation, meteorology and seamanship; and to provide educational and social events for the membership." This statement can lead us down a huge rabbit hole.

If you have an issue on how the races are done, why not send an email to the board, come to a board meeting, or just call me?

I have added an Amendment 2 for the SIs narrowing down the matrix for the boats entered.

If you didn't enter your rating, please go in and enter it. If you haven't paid, please go in and pay.

If you have any questions, send me a message via cell phone or email. I don't check this forum everyday.

Galveston Bay Area Racing / Chili Chase Registration
November 24, 2020, 03:44:20 PM
With it being 2020 and our efforts to get people out on the water, we are waiving the late registration fee for Chili Chase.

Also, unfortunately, we are NOT going to have the chili cook off portion.

Galveston Bay Area Racing / Fall Series #1 scoring
October 29, 2020, 09:46:39 AM
In the spirit of fairness, I have decided to abandon Fall Series #1. I apologize for the confusion.

The results for Sailing Angels will stand as is.

I was rushing to get the SIs out after being out of town. I was notified of some mistakes and made the corrections. I posted the amendments to the Sailing Angels end. I was focusing on the Sailing Angels part and overlooked those who had signed up for Chili Chase. I see where the confusion came from; we never intended people to have to sign up for Fall Series, but understand where the thought came from because of the scoring requirements for the series. We tried something new and have discussed the issues that arose.

There were some ideas of correcting the start time errors, but the results would be hypothetical.

Our goal is to provide the best race possible.

We look forward to seeing everyone for Fall Series #2 and Chili Chase.

Thank you for your understanding and patience...

Cheers...

Galveston Bay Area Racing / Sailing Angels Gathering
October 23, 2020, 03:06:47 PM
I will post an amendment to the NOR, but the gathering time will be 1830 hours (6:30 pm) at True North Marine.

Sorry for any confusion or any inconvenience.

Sailing Instructions will be posted per the NOR.

But, the Fall Series will mimic the Icicle Series in regards to start times and courses.

Galveston Bay Area Racing / Sailing Angels Regatta 2020
September 28, 2020, 01:29:02 PM
First of all, I want to thank everyone who participated in last year's Sailing Angels Regatta and fundraiser. With that success, we are hosting an event this year. We have held off advertising because of COVID.

We will hold the 2020 Sailing Angels Regatta on October 24 with Fall Series #1. I will get the NOR out shortly.

Thank you again!!!

Cheers...
Scott Tuma.
