Kuddos to r/c and the event staff... was really impressed on the number of boats racing...  There were some challenging starts and racing because of the wind conditions...  I do believe we get the trophy for the most General Recalls for the regatta... The committee did a good job on calling the line and we commend their dedication...

Thank ya'll for the input... just before the NOOD, I received the Gill Regatta Master as an (way) early birth day present (thanks babe)... I kinda think it was a hint based on my starting ability this year...  I have been very impressed with it... I would credit it for some good starts last weekend, but I am only responsible for the over-earlys, & Terri was pushing the stick...

What is everyone's experience with particular race watches?  Which do you prefer or stay away from?

Thanks guys... I know there will always be a minimal percentage that will attend the regatta and/or the parties... There is only so much we can do... on a different note, I did peak a families interest in the TGIF races... they were walking down the dock when we were cleaning up... described the event and the club with it's involvement in the area... seemed very interested, but bummed there are no more races for the year... thank you to everyone for the great season...

I was told Wednesday that one of the reasons some boats don't attend the post rum race party is "... We don't want to drive over the bridge... especially after a couple of drinks, we don't want to drive through Clear Lake Shores; and especially after the party... we are ending up at the Cafe anyways..." Have to admit, pretty good reason... There were a couple of other people that agreed that they don't like going through CLS...

just passing along info, don't smite the messenger...

Thanks Chris and Jay...  It is tough to squeeze everything in...  This isn't to stir anything up, not taking a stab at the way anyone is doing their job;  just looking to see how we can help encourage more people...  I have been on all three sides of the fence; actively racing attending everything, just getting back into racing and not knowing much of the fleet & working on people's boats and trying to encourage them into racing and becoming active...   I see this as a big circle; more people at the parties, more interest, more members, more boats, more people at the parties, etc... I agree, sometimes there are too many choices on which regatta to attend and which to skip...  BJSailor and SailorJohnny, I apoligize for not making the rounds when I attend the parties, if I knew your names, I will make sure to introduce myself next time we are there...  I know I have been out for a while and many people have no idea of who I am; I am trying to change that...

I have been able to attend about 1/2 of the socials, all the races I have been able to attend this year... over the years, I have heard some of the reasons of non-attendance: mow the grass, spend time with family, work, not big on parties, wash the cat, etc...  We all know the pulls and reasons change over the years...

just as an idea, I am sure someone already is doing this; print out a brouchure, single page, advertising the TGIF races and give it to each yacht dealer to hand out when they sell a boat... Have we considered a booth at the in-water boat show?

cheers...

One thing I have installed on long distance cruisers is a folding pad eye in the center of the cockpit... Drilling 3 holes is worth the saftey... On my teathers, I built two: a 6' and a 2'... I make sure I just reach the lifeline, but not over, with the 6'... when I am on the foredeck, I use the 2' so I cannot be thrown over the lifeline... I started doing this from my dad's boat, changing jibs @ 10 knots being lurched up and over the pulpit was not a fun idea... I use the two teathers also if I have to go from one point to another, I am always clipped... I don't think any of the teathers should be long enough for you to go over the lifelines...

you can have a sailmaker make a webbing strap, or any of us can splice a chunck of spectra...

General Discussion / Getting more party attendance...
August 26, 2009, 11:19:15 AM
I am curious on how to get more of the fleet involved socially...  If we have a 40 boat fleet with an average of 5 per boat, we could have 200-250 people showing up...  I know this is a constant battle for the social director... is there a way to do a random pole?

This might me aimed more at people who do not, or are not able to attend the post-race socials... What can we do to get your attendance after the races?  We need truthfull answers so we can try to accomodate...  ex: domestic commimentments, burned out, tired, don't like the people, etc...

I have also wondered about boat attendance at the other yacht clubs for the bigger races...

or, does anyone have any suggestions that they think will get some more people?  I personally think the photos on the big screen is pretty awesome... Thank you to who was responsible for that arrangement, you rock!!!

I saw them... I haven't had time to read them yet... problem is that the Andrews would need water-ballast to maintain control in any kind of breeze...
