Anyone have a "Sunday" number or operating e-mail for Banks? I forgot to pick up my 155 before noon yesterday and it looks like I am going to need it.
The e-mail on the the Banks web site is not functioning.
E-mail me at george.cushing@grubb-ellis.com if so. Thanks.

Kevin,

Thanks for pointing out my punctuation error. I should not type in bed, or without my glasses. I now see that I hit the period instead of the comma. The sentence should read ?It is hard to know if the non-spin fleet is not interested, or if it is being killed off by the club's officer?s decision not to offer W/L racing for non-spin.? I don?t think that is harsh, I think it asks a legitimate question.
For the full context of this discussion see Frostbite Regatta - 20-21 Feb ? 1 2 ? The dialogue in that thread covers the topic pretty well.

?So George, are you saying that if the course is not a W/L, the non-spin fleet will not sail??

I should point out that I only speak for myself regarding non-spin and W/L opportunities. Scott, I am only asking for advance notice, preferably in the NOR, of what is being offered so I can make a choice. I am also registering my hopes that there will be non-spin W/L options at regattas for the reasons put forth in the Frostbite Regatta thread.

I am happy to be a member of GBCA and have a deep appreciation for all the organization offers, and an even deeper respect for efforts of the board, volunteers, and the race committee.

Regards,

George

"I feel this weekend, the courses will be windward/leeward, but I want to keep my options open." I am glad to hear this.

It is not in the NOR and it should be. I would like to know ahead of time that the intent is to offer W/L. If it does not materialize, for whatever reason, I am fine with that.
Cheers,

George

Chris,
The R/C should be clear on what they are offering in advance of the event if the goal is to encourage participation. We had enough participants for a class in all of the W/L events last year, post Ike.

It is hard to know if the non-spin fleet is not interested. or if it is being killed off by the club's officers decision not to offer W/L racing for non-spin. At a minimum I would appreciate a clear statement in advance indicating if W/L is being offered for non-spin. I was reluctant to sign up not knowing if I was going to be racing W/L or fixed marks. The logic of not having W/L racing for non-spin is a head scratcher for me. The W/L non-spin class offers variety to the regular diet of fixed mark racing, and for some a learning ground on the way to spinnaker sailing. I would like to see W/L non-spin offered in all of the Regattas. If you don't have enough entries for a class, as is the case for this race, then we will sit on the dock until everyone wants to race.

What is the format going to be for non-spin?

The poll question sounds more like a question about overall preference versus specific race weekends that offer W/L racing. I like the Rum and Icicle Series, and enjoy the format. I also like W/L when it is offered. It might help to use the language in the first post as the actual poll question and start over.

"For the PHRF non-spin and the cruising class, what kind of course do you prefer the most on a racing weekend (aka. the Spring, Frostbite, Shoe Regatta, etc)"

Chris,

Your point is well made. Offer fixed and W/L for non-spin and let the numbers decide. I sure hope we don't loose W/L for non-spin if there is demand for it that cannot be measured fully in this forum.

Non-Spin Racers,

There is a poll under the post "Frostbite Regatta - 20-21 Feb" to determine the level of interest from the non-spin sector for a W/L course in the upcoming race. It seems that the race committee is leaning away from offering W/L in favor of fixed course racing at this event for the non-spin group. I look forward to the W/L events (non-spin), liking the variety and the chance to get the experience of five starts and lots of windward leg sailing under race conditions over a two day period.

Please take the time to respond. If there is a demand for W/L on the part on non-spin sailors, your feedback is needed.

Perhaps the cruising class would like to have the option of a fixed mark course, but the balance of the non-spin boats would like to have W/L. Time to comment.

Chris,

I agree that the non-spin boats are the future spin racers for the most part. Being on a W/L course is part of the training process. Even if spin is not in the future, some like the variety of W/L racing, I know I look forward to it. Where else can we get the concentrated experience of starting line maneuvers and windward leg strategies but at this type of event? We have plenty of fixed mark racing already.

As to the poll, I can understand why the cruising class might be a dissenting voice. It seems that their participation in the poll might dilute the results.

It sounds like it has it been decided that there is not going to be windward leward racing for the non-spin class. I find this dissapointing. Why is this the case?

Dolcetto hit a very solid obstruction on the south side of the red (#2, I believe) channel marker crossing the line before the start. I know this has been mentioned before and that the low tide was probably a contributing factor, but it is worth taking note.

I was unable to attend the skippers meeting and I am now at GBCA looking for the race instructions. None on the door. Can anyone help me get a set quickly? The link on the site does not work.
