Great party Buddy - thanks to all the RC and competitors for making the Wednesday night racing so much fun year after year!

Great weather and light (but not too light) air racing, fantastic party and great finish for Hydrodyn.  Thanks to all at GBCA for putting on another great regatta event both on and off the water!

One of my personal highlights of the HMR skippers meeting is the weather forecast from the gentlemen that has been doing it forever.  We should start a pool based on his predictions!

Getting the car packed up to head to the bay and get my race on with team Hydrodyn! What a great weekend to spend with friends on the water!

Club Classic is one of the best places on the bay to have a drink and watch the sunset, c'mon out for GBCA happy hour!

from above "BTW-Very few of the J/Boats signed up for J/Fest are entered in the HMR."

No kidding - only a few jboats ever do the HMR.  Do you seriously think LYC never would have ever agreed to this weekend if they thought it would have any significant impact on their turnout for HMR?  As for the impact on the Bank Regatta, it pretty much speaks for itself.

I appreciate that you are just trying to promote your event Scott but this has pretty much squeezed GBCA on entries which we rely on for the trophies and regatta parties, especially in this economy where sponsorship is not what it used to be.

I must apologize and I can't believe that no one called me out on this - there is a home game that weekend, not sure how I missed that!!  With the exception of the the Haye's and the Caldwell's or anyone else that has season tickets, get signed up!

Oh for pete's sake people - log in to regatta network and sign up already!  It's going to be one of the nicest weekends of the year and there is not a Texan's home game on Sunday.  We promise we will have the game playing at the party!

Gotta love Catfish on Wheels!!

Sail Fast - what kind of boat?  I am assuming that when you say the GBCA crane you are talking about the one at Seabrook Marina?  Their number is 281-474-2586, you can make arrangements directly with them.

Galveston Bay Area Racing / Re: 1 day vs. 2 day regattas

In the past few years we have added the Bay Cup I and II, lost NOOD, added GBAD, JFest and HYC one-design (NOR coming soon)?

I'm with Jeff K - there are too many things going on - even if some of these races are only one day, they are not going to get food participation.  Many of these regattas were added after the joint planning meeting last fall.

All of these regattas on top of Wednesday night and circuit stops for many adds up to burned out racers......and burned out organizing authorities.  For GBCA, since June we have put on 8 rum races, single/double hand, women's regatta, GBAD this weekend and Compass Bank Regatta coming up in a few weeks.  None of these parties or RCs just happen without planning and logistics.  There is a lot of work that happens behind the scenes that most people take for granted.  This volunteer work needs to take place whether we have 10 boats or 100 boats.

There just needs to be more open weekends in the sailing schedule for the Bay.  I have done some of these out of town regattas and used to do the J24 circuit.  I agree with Jeff J that it would be good for those that are interested to travel more without having to sacrifice supporting events at home.

You weren't here for the J24 Nationals they sponsored here a few years ago.

Galveston Bay Area Racing / Re: GBAD REGATTA?

Good question - one possible answer is that a number of the non-spin, cruising spin and classic canvas don't prefer to race around the buoys - hence the success of the club handicap and events that promote long reaching legs such as the Bay Cup series, rum and icicle races.  I know that this type of course does not really help you validate PHRF ratings.

For those that have chosen to sit this one out - it would be helpful if you could provide some feedback.

I'll have to do a little reading up on this one - I know that there are a couple of brands out there that are anti-microbial and tend not to stink.  big bonus for your crew mates!
