Crew Finder / Reach Down The Beach / HYC Offshore

Is anyone still planning on racing to/from Freeport this weekend? A couple of boats withdrew this morning, so there are some crew available if you need extra bodies.

Crew Finder / J/24 Fleet 5
February 28, 2019, 12:38:36 PM
J/24 Fleet 5 is rebuilding and recruiting new crewmembers. We are aiming to race 6 boats regularly this year, and will need a few more crew to make that happen. Boats will race Wednesday nights with CLRA, and there may be opportunities to race in Austin, Dallas/Fort Worth, Corpus Christi, and Lake Canyon as part of the Texas Circuit.

No experience needed- we'll train anyone. Email me at ryan.w.miller.1 "@" gmail.com, respond to this note, or PM me.

Sent you an email. Hope you'll come back to the J/24 fleet!

Any idea who is running the committee boat(s)? The J/24 fleet is trying to see if we can get a guy on board to do some drone photography for us.

My Velocitek Prostart has die again, and I find myself without a compass or speedo for HYC Midwinters this weekend. Does anyone have a spare mast mounted instrument I could borrow or rent for a couple of days? I can live without the speedo, but would definitely like to find a compass. Prostart, TackTick, Prism, Nautalytics, Nova-Sail, etc.

If you finish far enough in the rear each race, Hi Point/Low point don't make no difference!   ;D

Hey, no fair giving away my strategy!

We happy few, we band of soggy idiots... major props to Larry Blankenhagen for whooping up on the fleet in a J22 without a head sail in some very gnarly conditions!

Bonus points: I'm even a real human being, unlike most of the people making posts on these forums over the last couple of days!

Crew Finder / Available crew for TORC races
January 14, 2019, 11:48:33 AM
I'm currently uncommitted for all three TORC races this year and looking for a ride, preferably on the same boat. I'm looking for a new challenge and would prefer to sail an assym spinnaker boat or a multihull this year. Still relatively new at the offshore stuff, but have raced:

  • Heald Bank (2017 and 2018 on Second Wind)
  • Texas Race Week (2017 on Leopard and 2018 on Second Wind)
  • HMR (2017 F Division second place on Leopard, 2018 B Division first place and Catalina manufacturer's trophy on Renaissance)
I can race at any position, but am happiest on helm or trimming headsails. I can be of some use tactically. I primarily sail J/24s, but I sailed on 10 different boats during something close to 100 days on the water last year. How can I help you?

That's a great idea... I had considered it but wasn't sure if it was within the rules for these races. Not too many people chartering boats for the Icicle Series, I'm sure  :)

I'll probably go that route unless Scott or someone else in charge shoots it down.

Can someone clarify the rule on PHRF-GB certificates for this series? Trick Bag still isnt done so I'm borrowing a J24 for this weekend, but the regular skipper has no intention to run any other distance races so I don't want to pay for a PHRF-GB cert that will only get used once this season. Do you only need a PHRF-GB cert to be eligible for the series award, or do you need it to race at all? It's a stock one-design boat so it's not like it'll have a controversial rating.

How's your tolerance for bruises and slow boats? We have 4 J/24s in our mini fleet and will train anyone. Practice time may be limited until the end of October but we can get you out there. Send me a PM.

Crew Finder / Crew available for HMR
July 29, 2018, 08:36:44 PM
***Cross-posted from the HMR crew finder page***

31 year old male ready to race at almost any position. 5 years racing experience, mostly in the Texas J/24 circuit but also on larger boats. I can helm, trim mainsail, trim jib, trim spinnaker, call tactics, grind, or tend bar. If you're desperate, I can do foredeck. Raced HMR last year, but the crew I thought I was sailing with this year (AND my backup plan) aren't racing. I'm sailing in the Heald Bank Regatta for a tune-up and have my own safety gear. Competitive but easy-going- you won't get any bullshit from me.

Really? None of you could use experienced crew?

I don't believe you  ;)

If it helps, I added a Tartan 10 to my list of boats raced tonight. Who needs help?

Crew Finder / Need crew for Leukemia Cup?
June 17, 2018, 07:15:52 PM
I'm available to sail next weekend if you need crew for the Leukemia Cup. Male, 31 with 5 years racing experience, mostly on J/24s, but I've raced an S2, J/29 and J/130. I've done just about every job on a racing boat- put me to work. No bullshit, I'm competitive but lose more than I win so that wont bother me- I'll just be happy to be on the water.
