Go fast Shearwater! Living the dream

I noticed in the fleet a Moore 24 to Hawaii? Wow.  A shame he can't sign up for our local Harvest Moon  ::)

Highly modified I would suspect.  Years ago a guy reworked a Catalina 22 to qualify for the race and he had to add positive flotation, plus strengthen the standing rigging, rudder attachments etc.  He did all that and got it approved, then never did the race.

With alot of wind and weather looking bad, PRO Scott Tuma decided to postpone.  We will try and reschedul on August 10. Turns out Greg is young at heart and signed up to support the kids. Thanks Greg!  Guess I will go home and play with "Missy".

Good call!

Looks like Big D is about 25 miles out.  Might make it by nightfall.  Doing 7.7 MPH last report. Petite Louis III hot on his tail.

Big D, Petite Louis, and Cayuse past the first mark, south of Morgan City.  Cayuse, it appears, didn't leave the first mark to port though.  Hmmmm?
Frayed Knot getting close.

Fair winds and tolerable seas to all the Emerald Coast Regatta sailors...if you're close enough inshore to find this post.....ye might need to get outside more.....

Looks like that's what most of them are doing.  Slow going though.

Galveston Bay Area Racing / Catalina 22 Nationals
May 24, 2014, 09:20:26 AM
The Catalina 22 National Championship Regatta will be held Sunday, June 22nd through Thursday, June 26.  It is being hosted by the Lakewood Yacht Club and all activities will be held on the club grounds.  There will be several competitors coming in from out of town, out of state and some are looking for local crew.  If you are interested and available, or would like more information,  contact me and I will connect you with a potential skipper.
It will be a great event and offer four full days of racing and off the water activities.

I never had a drop till after the "finish". Made up for lost time though!

General piece of advice:  Read and remember the S.I.'s, and figure out a shortcut when the time runs out.

What a cluster! We had been at the leeve since 0800 waiting on the fog and wind. The fog lifted about 1300 and Chris D and crew got the course set up by 1400, the the wind came up about 1430 and Kiters lifted off. Oh, then the police showed up and shut down the whole leeve because of the accident. It took about and hour to get everything put away and we all headed to the Kite Board shop and ate some great BBQ. We will have to see about trying to reschedule.

Part of the phrase is missing!

We might be a pain, but at least it keeps some order into the world of so many sailboats going out and trying to compete on the same race course.  I really feel sorry for you poor J boat sailors showing up with your light displacement boats and "big" A-kites, which on a close reach in light air become a 180% genoa. Is it fair to other more conventional boats and their rating? I don't know, I just try to stay as close as I can to the Catalina 22's and hope for the best!  :)

There are several for sail, Jim!
