J/Boaters, the deadline for early registration is a week from now, August 20, at 5:00pm. Benefits of early registration include event t-shirts for all crew (up to 6) and - for the first time - the name of your boat on the t-shirt! Don't get caught trying to explain to your crew how they are not getting t-shirts because you delayed signing up for a regatta you knew you were doing!!

Does anybody know where the Icicle Series standings are being published this year? I seem to be having a hard time finding them.

For the J/70 Class this is a warm-up event for the North American Championship for which Registrations starts on the following Monday, and racing is scheduled for 5/19-22.

All J/Boats sailors, make plans to participate in the 4th annual J/Fest Southwest on November 2-3! As incentive for early sign-up, LYC is offering free regatta T-shirts (long-sleeved) for all crew members for boats that sign up before 1700 hrs on September 2, 2013! We want to show those that might travel from far away that it is worthwhile to come to this event. They look at the registration list to decide. That's why we want it populated early!

Echoing what Andrea said about Harvest Moon registration: Please sign up early!! Many of you are involved in the organization of regattas and know how helpful it is, when you can plan the classes, lines - and dinner (!) with more than just a few days to spare. Refund policies are very accommodating, if you find that something secondary - like: your job - got in the way. The deadline for regular registration is September 28!!!

Make sure to plan on attending the Saturday night party! It will again feature a fantastic menu and live music!

LYC and J/Boats Southwest have secured a large number of awesome raffle items and give-aways for the skippers' meeting (Friday 10/12 at 7:00pm) and the Awards Party on Sunday after the races. It is not to be missed!

Mark your calendars for this exciting event: Lakewood Yacht Club will again host a Test Drive Day on Saturday, June 30th starting at 10:00am in the Small Boat Harbor. Come with your family/crew and try a number of boats on for size!

Star of the show will be the brand new J/70, a 22' sport boat for ~ 3 crew. This is Hull No. 7 and the first of these boats to come down to Texas. Don't miss the opportunity to check out this speedster! We expect a crowd for this one, so come early!

We expect to also have J/22, J/24, J/80, J/105 and J/109 available for testing. And I'm sure we can talk the Gambler into opening up his boat to look at (I hear that it's for sale....) and round out the program with the J/122.

This is a rare opportunity to hop from one boat to the next to see what you like and what fits your style. Various boat owners will be able to tell you about their racing circuits and what it takes to participate - or to just have fun with the boat! Don't miss it!

The J/80 and J/105 line at J/Fest will feature live race tracking through Kattack. LYC will have several large screen TV's set up in the club house for friends, fans and families to follow the racing in  (near) real time in the comfort of the closest armchair. Can anybody give me a hint how/where to register for the Leukemia Cup? HYC's website links to the Regatta Network site but there's no entry for this event. However, I can sign up for the spectator boat and the kick-off party. I'm all on board with the fun etc., but let's have some racing, too!

Well, I guess we have a quorum for a PHRF Spin class, but just barely!

Just picked up the NOR for this regatta. Why are we running this regatta north of the Bayport channel? Won't most boats come from the Seabrook area? I'd also wouldn't mind for the one day regattas to start a bit earlier to get enough races in (but not if most of us have to motor to the starting line for an hour or more).

Larchmont NOOD just finished with 75 or so boats participating. I wonder if they cancel that one, too, now.......

The Test Drive Day at Lakewood Yacht Club is definitely 'on'! Mark your calendar for Saturday 5/22 and, most importantly, pass it on to everybody you know who

• is trying to get into sailing but hasn't found a way to get in
• is a casual sailor but may be interested in getting into racing and wants to try a faster ride
• is new to the area and wants to establish connections
• wants to hang out with all the other sailors
• wants to help promote sailing in the area
• etc.

J-Boats Southwest will be there and is graciously sponsoring refreshments, the Viper 640 will be there to satisfy all those who couldn't stop salivating after seeing them at the Shoe Regatta and KO Sailing will be out to demonstrate some of their sailing toys. There should be something for everyone, from big to small. I'll post the complete boat list as soon as I have everybody committed.
