Echoing what Andrea said about Harvest Moon registration: Please sign up early!! Many of you are involved in the organization of regattas and know how helpful it is, when you can plan the classes, lines - and dinner (!) with more than just a few days to spare. Refund policies are very accommodating, if you find that something secondary - like: your job - got in the way. The deadline for regular registration is September 28!!!

Make sure to plan on attending the Saturday night party! It will again feature a fantastic menu and live music!

LYC and J/Boats Southwest have secured a large number of awesome raffle items and give-aways for the skippers' meeting (Friday 10/12 at 7:00pm) and the Awards Party on Sunday after the races. It is not to be missed!

Galveston Bay Area Racing / Re: Bay Cup II August 11
August 13, 2012, 12:55:46 PM
yeah, Bee, it's the ol' tortoise and hare story! There's another Hamburg at the dock at LYC. I never move it, just take the covers off in the morning. At least that's what the tracker says.

Let's try it again for the rum race this weekend.

OK, confused.  Only Shaken and Stinger show up on this one.  For some reason the marks don't show up either but if you switch to make mode you can see where the boats are as then run.

Going to go back one more time and see if I can figure out why Hamburgler is not there.

The Hamburgler didn't show up because he didn't switch his smart phone on - or was it his brain?

I'll set up mine, Bee. Thanks for taking care of this!!

I just talked to the VX folks. They will be there on Sunday, also. There will not be any test driving going on Saturday. I hope this doesn't mess anybody up too badly. Go and sail in the Divorce Cup on Saturday!!

See y'all on Sunday!

Far be it for me to complain about the results for the #3 race spin class, but it seems that Pedro and his mini-rocket came in second, everybody else - including Hamburg - moves down one. Or did he sail shorthanded?

Also, for the overall standings: The results for Mojo in the second race were for the 24' edition, the results for the 3rd race were for the 32' edition. Should be scored as two separate boats.

Mark your calendars for this exciting event: Lakewood Yacht Club will again host a Test Drive Day on Saturday, June 30th starting at 10:00am in the Small Boat Harbor. Come with your family/crew and try a number of boats on for size!

Star of the show will be the brand new J/70, a 22' sport boat for ~ 3 crew. This is Hull No. 7 and the first of these boats to come down to Texas. Don't miss the opportunity to check out this speedster! We expect a crowd for this one, so come early!

We expect to also have J/22, J/24, J/80, J/105 and J/109 available for testing. And I'm sure we can talk the Gambler into opening up his boat to look at (I hear that it's for sale....) and round out the program with the J/122.

This is a rare opportunity to hop from one boat to the next to see what you like and what fits your style. Various boat owners will be able to tell you about their racing circuits and what it takes to participate - or to just have fun with the boat! Don't miss it!

Come on down! June 30th, 10:00am!

Tell all those good folks from out of town to make sure and be back for the - so far unofficial - Galveston Bay Bucket: Four weeks, Three Regattas, Three Host Yacht Clubs, One Location: HYC HOOD, GBCA Bank, LYC J/Fest SW. On Galveston Bay, where the following applies: Yankee: So, how long is your sailing season down there? Local: What do you mean 'season'?

The J/80 and J/105 line at J/Fest will feature live race tracking through Kattack. LYC will have several large screen TV's set up in the club house for friends, fans and families to follow the racing in  (near) real time in the comfort of the closest armchair. If you can't make it out there, you can follow the racing at

The races will also be available for replay shortly afterwards.

Check it out!!

It's ashame that all these "donations" can't get a few six inch pipe obstacles removed from the bay to make boating safer for all of us.

You think that Texas Parks and Wildlife will share their new tax revenue with the Coast Guard??? That makes so much sense, it'll never happen.

Can anybody give me a hint how/where to register for the Leukemia Cup? HYC's website links to the Regatta Network site but there's no entry for this event. However, I can sign up for the spectator boat and the kick-off party. I'm all on board with the fun etc., but let's have some racing, too!

OK, I did it, but $15 for a stupid sticker that says nothing about the legality of the terlit is crappy indeed.

It's not the sticker that's stupid, Bee!

One of the enterprising engineers at my office pointed out that this would favor really slow driving, because the time error as a percent is less if the denominator (i.e., elapsed time) is really large. So, can we enter row boats?

I got that same note, and after I got over being totally PO's about yet another tax I paid it on line. To appreciate just how bone headed this is just look at the parameters of validity: The darn thing goes in effect supposedly last November. Nobody heard about it until just now. But the $15 count for two years ending 12/31 of odd years, i.e., this year. So: we're paying the fee not for two years but for seven months. Even if we all had paid immediately it would have been only for just over a year. Your elected representatives at work. Don't we love them!!! There's no inspection or other requirement to get this permit, just your money. If it looks like a tax, smells like a tax (and it does!!) it probably is a duck.
