Galveston Bay Area Racing / GBCA RR Mark

The GBCA Rum Race mark was a little low in the water yesterday for Performance Cup. Good thing the gps location was good! When the waves came in, it was completely underwater  :o

Galveston Bay Area Racing / Conundrum SI's
April 17, 2019, 06:55:52 PM
Scott Tuma,
You have John's PHRF rating for Flying Kiss as 273 in the SI's. John GBPHRF rating is 288 spin and 296 non-spin.
Would you please correct the start times for a 288 rating.
I tried emailing FleetCaptain@GBCA.org and it comes back as:
"We're writing to let you know that the group you tried to contact (FleetCaptain) may not exist, or you may not have permission to post messages to the group"

Thanks
Scott Lacy

Galveston Bay Area Racing / Found Sail
September 16, 2018, 01:45:35 PM
Last night when we left Flying Kiss, there was a North sail rolled up. We were at the floating dock north of the crane at Seabrook Marina dry storage. We went to put up FK this morning and found the sail piled in the trash. Looks in OK shape to me. If you lost a sail, give me a call at 713-82two-0823. Scotty

Good New! The ballots to elect the 2015 Board of Governors and the Annual Awards ballots are in the mail. Please take the time to send back your ballot and make your voice heard. On behalf of your Nominating Committee, I believe we have a strong group of people that have volunteered to help make this an even stronger club.
The Annual Awards for "Yachtsman of the Year", "Sportsman of the Year" and "Crewman of the Year" will be determined on the enclosed ballots. We have had quite a few members that have traveled far and wide and members that have stayed locally that gave our Club great recognition. Let us honor those that have made great accomplishments for themselves and our Club. The Annual Awards will be presented at the Commodore's Ball next year!
The new Board of Governors will be presented at the Annual Meeting for all Senior Members on October 24th 2014 at Cabos. If the weather is nice, we will be on the upper deck with hors d'oeuvres and a nice view of Clear Lake! The Annual Meeting is a good time for all Senior Member to take part in discussions on the future of GBCA. Please make plans to attend!

General Discussion / 2015 Board of Govenors Nominations
September 01, 2014, 07:25:16 AM
It is almost time to vote in new Flag Officers and three new Board Members for 2015. Before we can vote, we must nominate! If you or  someone you know would like to serve as a Flag Officer or a Board Member, please let me or any Board Member know. Now is the time to put back into GBCA what you have gotten out of GBCA. Help make this a better Club with your participation and leadership.
Nominations will be taken until September 15, 2014. The Nominating Committee will then draw up a ballot to be mailed out by October 1,2014. If you or someone you know is interested, please email me at sailsong@swbell.net. The only qualifications are you must be willing to serve and you must be a Senior Member.

General Discussion / Flash ll
July 29, 2014, 05:09:49 PM
I was fortunate to be asked to take some pictures and video of John F. Kennedy's Star "Flash ll" today. Ben Miller is doing some restoration work for the owner who will put it up for auction some time this fall. Ben and Robert Jones got is set up to be launched at the dry storage in SSY. After the launch, Ben and Dennis Kokkinis sailed it out to the channel and back a few times. Ben said it most likely had not been sail in over 40 years. On the drive home I realized it may never be sailed again (value $1million+, I would not have the nerve to launch it! Good job Ben!!). It was a beautiful site to see and sailed with ease. My good fiend and neighbor Tom Tamborello took the pictures from the far side while I flew Missy. The pictures are at https://www.flickr.com/photos/lacyphotos/sets/72157645616605619/. I will work on the video and post it tomorrow! Fine Day!

The GBCA Single-Handed Regatta is August 16. This will be a good chance to show the crew how it is suppose to be done 8)! Then August 17 is the GBCA Mixed Doubles Regatta (aka the "Divorce Cup" :-*). Get your best different gender mate and come out to race. As an article in Sail Magazine last month stated "Single hands do not race W/L", this years course will be around fixed marks and buoys. It will be more of a Rum Race course or the Spring Regatta courses. Stay tuned for the upcoming NOR and make plans to attend both Regattas!

General Discussion / GBCA 2014 Calendars
January 07, 2014, 10:12:55 AM
Finally..... The new GBCA 2014 Calendars have arrived! All Senior Members will receive a calendar as a perk of their membership. The twelve sponsors provide the funds to make these calendars available. Be sure and visit all of the sponsors and tell them thanks for the calendars. Between the calendars, Senior Members discount (see the home page), and Rum 8).....that should more than make up the difference of a Senior Membership.

I would like to give out as many calendars this weekend as possible, to save some $'s on postage. Stop by the clubhouse and get your calendar after Icicle Race #2. If you cannot make the party, make sure your address is correct in the data base.

Support our Sponsors (SOS) as they support GBCA!

Galveston Bay Area Racing / GBCA 2014
November 22, 2013, 01:12:06 PM
While the GBCA race schedule has come to a close, next year is right around the corner. The Icicles will start the first weekend in January until the first weekend of February. The schedule is still a work in progress, but 2014 is shaping up to be another great year of sailing. From LYC and GBCA teaming up for the Emerald Regatta to Pensacola or our ever popular summer ?Rum Races?, it is time to think about next year (unless you are racing in HYC?s Turkey Day Regatta tomorrow, then stay warm and safe!).

While you are waiting out the cold weather, make sure your membership is up to date. GBCA is ?The Place to Race? because of our great members. The GBCA Calendars will hopefully go out before the end of the year to all Senior Members. Icicle/Rum Race overall winners must also be Senior Members. Help your Board provide you the experience that you deserve. If you have questions or suggestions about your membership, let me know. sailsong@swbell.net

So, let?s get our boats and crew ready. See our Senior Members Rewards page and visit all our Sponsors for all your boating needs. From foulies to performance equipment, our sponsors can provide all that you need. Help them help GBCA.
