Galveston Bay Area Racing / Re: TGIF Classes
April 19, 2019, 01:19:35 PM
After careful review of the sailing instructions (and no replies to the contrary) I see a reference to GBCA Club Handicap rating at the bottom of page 1 in the start time equation (which I agree should use 11.25 instead of 12.81). From that I assume there will be a club handicap class. I will start at my club handicap time tonight. It should be a fun fast race tonight.

Galveston Bay Area Racing / TGIF Classes

Will there be a club handicap class in the TGIF races, or will everyone be PHRF?

I like the 8 point scoring with one point for finishing for the larger classes, but that is not what is listed in the sailing instructions. The sailing instructions show 5 points for first ...

With my heavy liveaboard boat and light winds, even with the extra hour I missed the 9PM cutoff time (21:03:52 finish = DNF). (I do not like going upwind in light air.) I vote we keep the hour earlier start time at least for the cruising class.

Bee, I took almost 19 hours to cross the finish line. I got to see the Port Arthur channel well after dark. I now seek the wisdom of those who did better. What was the best strategy with the wind and current directly against us? In hind site, I think I should have gone further out. I only went out 12nm and then would tack back across the rhumb line. Can you share your wisdom (other than get a faster boat)?

Sorry about the cookie. Management changed the request to brownies. I brought them to the party, but then failed to hunt you down.

I registered "Royal Crescent", but Caroline Novark will skipper the boat. Since I live on the boat I was told that I can stay on board, but I needed to stay in the galley and bake cookies. If I am good, I may be allowed on deck to grind winches.
