This winter?s repeated visits of the ?Polar Vortex? has made Texas winter sailing a passion for the hardy at best. Extended days of cold temperatures interspersed with sea fog on the few warm days-- have kept many boats securely tied up in the harbor. It?s time to change all that!
The 2014 sailing season kicks off in earnest on the weekend of April 4-6, 2014, when Houston Yacht Club?s (HYC?s) 28th Annual Elissa Regatta covers upper Galveston Bay with racing and cruising sailboats of all sizes.
Here is what to expect:
? Two days of high-level racing in Galveston Bay including a Large Boat Line (south of Bayport Ship Channel), One-Design Line (off HYC), and a Pursuit Line(Upper Bay). Lightning Class will hold its 2014 Lightning Class Texas District Championship.
? Dinner and entertainment on Saturday night will be highlighted with a Live Auction and a ?Focused Raffle? of nautical prints, current and vintage photography, plus other maritime-related items. Raffle tickets can be purchased for $10 each or 11 for $100 (which includes a commemorative pin).
Sponsorships opportunities are available. Please contact Martha Gillette (fifg2@gmail.com) or Ruth Keenan (ruth.keenan@sjcd.edu) for more information.
