Crew Finder / Looking for crew for 2019 sailing season
January 09, 2019, 09:25:32 AM
We're looking for a few good hands to sail aboard Leopard this year. First opportunity is the GBCA Icicle Races. Each Saturday in January and second Saturday in February. Other races - LYC's Bay Cups in March and August; Heald Bank offshore in July; Harvest Moon to Port Aransas in October. Of course there's the GBCA Rum Races all summer!
We would prefer experienced hands as most of the crew are newer, but are shaping well. New hands are still welcome.
We can't guarantee any winning, but we will have some nice sailing!

We're giving out Tumblers to boats who minimize the use of plastic water bottles. If you provide a bulk water supply aboard, we 'll give you a tumbler for every crew on your waiver list that sails.

Hi All, There's still time to sign up for Heald Bank!
I'm working on the Sailing Instructions and the courses. I'll have several ones for different conditions, shorter for light air, longer ones for fair breezes, and I plan to take it easy on the cruisers, with a little more reaching to make it a little more like HMR should be.

This is the last in the offshore series to award the Texas Navy Trophy. GBCA has graciously agreed to present it to the victor as part of LYC's award ceremony during the Buccaneer Bash and Pirates' Pig Roast. We'll toast the winners with the new Texas Navy Rum!

So come out and sail! But, If you can't, come out to the party afterwards! Should be a great time! Check the LYC web site for links to enter and tickets for the Party!

Cheers,

I have a new crew on Leopard and want to teach them to use the spinnaker. We're signed up for Bay Cup II, but my usual experienced crew isn't available.
I'm looking for someone who can help us fly the spinnaker, direct/train the new guys, and jump in in case of emergencies.
If you're available, contact me at rdhunkins@comcast.net.

Thanks,
Bob Hunkins

YOUR LAST CHANCE OF A FORTUNE!

S/V Leopard will shortly sail to scour the Gulf of Mexico in Texas Race Week! She is designed to SAIL AGAINST WIND AND TIDE and she will speed past competitors without Mercy, sweeping the regatta of prizes. There is no time to be lost! Once the Leopard has gone by there will be no more PRIZES.

This Amazing Vessel, built on Scientific Principles, is commanded by the renowned

Robert Hunkins!

whose Day Sailer Surprise, with a 17ft waterline, gained countless victories on The Lake and Bay in the last 20 years! And the Leopard measures 34ft!  So what will she do, in this proportion? More than TWO TIMES as much! Come and join the Fun before it is too late!

Mr. Hunkins has been prevailed upon to accept a few more Hands. Only exceptionally wide-awake, intelligent people will be entertained, capable of lifting a Winchester bushel of Gold; but PERHAPS YOU ARE THE LUCKY ONE! Hurry, there is no time to be lost. Hurry to the Rendezvous at the Galveston Yacht Basin. YOU MAY BE THE LUCKY INDIVIDUAL WHO IS ACCEPTED!

No troublesome formalities. The best of provisions at 16 oz to the pound. Kolaches, Breakfast tacos, Sandwiches, Free beer, and grog! Dancing and fiddling ashore! A health-giving, wealth-giving cruise. Be healthy and wealthy and wise, and bless the day you came aboard the Leopard!

GOD BLESS TEXAS!

Galveston Bay Area Racing / Re: Rum Race SIs

I think having a consistent set of names of the fixed marks in the bay is good. It's less for people to remember. Everyone who's sailed a rum or icicle race knows what "E" and "H" are. LYC is using that designation (credit to GBCA) in the Shoe Regatta.

Speaking of which... Please enter! We need only 1 or two boats in many of the GBCA popular fleets to form!
See my post for the links!
