Some of the CLRA PHRF skippers are planning an informal race on the bay tomorrow when CLRA has a bye week and we want invite all like-minded sailors to join us.
We will follow the standard course for this year's Icicle Series, and add 6 hours to the Icicle starting time. That puts most boats starting between 5:45 and 6:15 PM.
No racing on the lake this week but the bay is wide open! All boats are welcome.
We had a lot of fun last time so it's going to happen again! Race this Wednesday on Galveston Bay.
Use the Icicle Race SI's and add 6 hours to the start time. Standard course.
3 boats have committed so far.
Great idea Gary - unfortunately I did not save the Icicle SI's.
Can you give me the start time for handicap 96?
If anybody wants to race on Big Fig tomorrow (PHRF spin, non-sprit), give me a call.
(713) 854-6240.

5 boats and counting now.
Okay, count SolAire in as well. And be prepared to sail swiftly away from us in the dying breeze... :)

Rodeo Clown is in.
Franken will come out... starting at 6:18-ish....
Renaissance will be there.
It was great to see boats out on the bay on a week day.
An idea; I can encourage a Bay class using the icicle course (as Gary has started) each Wednesday. People are free to do as they wish, but I can help keep track of finishes and with enough boats, award prizes.
To me, I would suggest make it a Wednesday Night Double Handed Bay Race. This will solve the crew issue. Something to get people out and get a mid-week break from the stress.
Any interest in a bay based race Wednesday?
I'd do it, but I need one crew to make it a double hand. Any volunteers?
I think its best to wait until July 13 and the next Bye week. I miss read the schedule.
I like the idea but how many boats would we lose to the lake on real Wednesday nights?
Jeff -- you probably remember that the 80's used to do something like this. I did the bay part once on Stinger but I was the only 105 out there, so we wound up practicing stars.
Is anyone planning to do this on Wednesday?
I could be convinced. Most likely be doublehanded.
Yes, it continues this week. Icicle Race SI's and add 6 hours to the start time. S winds are predicted, we may want to consider the reverse course for Wednesday. I will be on Bad Girl.

Jeff, I don't think many, if any. The people on the Lake like the close action. If something gets rolling on the Bay, that is great.
CLRA used to run races on the Bay for the 80s, but the participation was very unpredictable and many times the RC would sit out by them self; so I killed it and encouraged Chris to sail.
I had proposed an option to the 80s at one time; 4 boats, 4 races/series - each boat runs a race. This can be done with a whistle and 3 marks.
If the big boats want to run a course (Icicle) on the bay and give me the scores and join the party/awards afterwards, please do. I think it would be great. One thing I would suggest to level out the playing field - make the bay races double handed. This will help with the crew issue the bigger boats face. This could be a great option for the 80 and 70s that want to sail, but are concerned about the depth issue in the lake (even though the Melges 24 sails weekly).
cheers...
Scott
Where do you access the Iclicle start times?
The sailing instructions which contain start times are no longer posted.
A link to the Icicle SI's can be found earlier in this thread. It sounds like we may have 6-7 boats competing, ranging from catamarans to 43'.
Don't forget reverse course!
Thank you Gary for putting that together... it is a great break... I had forgotten how nice it is to sail on Wednesdays...
I had an absolutely wonderful time on Bad Girl.
It's that time again, a bye week for CLRA, so a bay race this Wednesday night. Follow the Icicle class SI's (a link can be bound earlier in this thread) but add six (6) hours to your time.
Reverse course likely.
Renaissance is in.
Still a tad short handed.
Jim
Six boats so far for Wednesday!
Bee has a bad cold. Stinger is out.
Crew slots still open for tonight!
Reverse course for tonight.
This is also a great opportunity to try out the GBCA racing results (genie) for tonight: http://racing.gbca.org/ (http://racing.gbca.org/)
I thin 8 boats now, crew slots are available!
Time for one last Wednesday night race in the bay. Icicle race start times + six hours (a link to the SI's is in this thread. Course TBD depending on wind forecast. Prize for the first spinnaker monohull to finish. 3 boats so far!
Pretty sure SolAire will make it!
Six boats and counting...
