Galveston Bay Area Racing / Re: What is Chili Chase?

Tentative start time SI's have been posted.  Will refresh once again before competitor briefing.
Sorry, Was waiting for any last minute registrations so as to not have to update all the time.
10 boats signed up in the last two days.

Fixed.  Thanks for pointing these out.  There were a couple of others as well.
It's important that you spell the boat name and sail number the same each time you enter your time.  Different spellings (even spaces and special characters) will cause them to appear as two separate boats. This is partially why once you have enter times the first time, the form will pre-fill the information the next time.

Tenacious has 2 results for racing the Non-Spin class.  We should be in third, not 6th and 7th. I also see a few more that are doubled up in the classes.  :o :o

In Spin-sprite fleet standings, you have Spitfire and Spitfire! as two different boats.

Sorry, "Cruzan Rum Race".  I thought they were asking for "Cruzan Race Week" results.  You are correct Walter.  It's been added to front web page.

Hard to be a photographer on a competitors boat in a race that limits crew to single or double handed.

With less than two weeks before the regatta three days to entry deadline, having only five boats entered; the GBCA board of governors have voted to cancel this regatta and try again next year.

Those that did register will be refunded.

GBCA still needs to run two offshore regattas for the TORC series awards.  More information to come.

Planning continues and some details still to be confirmed.  Preliminary NOR has been posted for your planning purposes.

NOR

May 27-29 & June 3-5, 2016

This is a two race regatta on back to back weekends.  These are offshore overnight races, with the first race starting May 27 at the Galveston Jetties / Bolivar Roads HSC #11 and ending at the Corpus Christi Marina T-heads; the second race starting June 4 at the Port Aransas jetty condos and ending at the Galveston Jetties / Bolivar Roads HSC #11 on the following weekend.  Slip rental (at reduced rate) will be available to leave boats in the Corpus Christi City Marina for the week between races.  Events are planned with the Corpus Christi Yacht Club.

These will be the two GBCA offshore races that count along with the LYC Heald Bank and HYC Offshore races, toward the Texas Navy and S. Rhoads Fischer Cups, for Spinnaker and NonSpinnakeer boats respectively.

More details to come.

Must have three boats to form a class.  Considerations will be made to consolidate those classes that don't form.

2016 SI's are posted.  Click here

Note: Two significant changes this year
- The No Luffing and Two Boat Separation rules are gone.  Standard RRS apply.
- We are trying out a new class to see if there is enough interest.  Spinnaker boats with aftermarket sprit will have their own class.

Check your new class flag assignments - to be displayed from start to end of race.

There is a pdf poster that you can download and print to hang on your icebox. Click here

Galveston Bay Area Racing / Re: Chili Chase Nov 7
November 09, 2015, 09:58:33 PM
We tried to revive a GBCA event from the past and it turned out better than expected.  Thanks to all those that turned out for the Chili Chase Regatta and Cook-off on Nov. 7th.  Thirty boats signed up to race, but unfortunately the weather conditions bested all but eleven who finished.  Results can be found at http://www.regattanetwork.com/clubmgmt/applet_regatta_results.php?regatta_id=11347&show_divisions=1.
At the après race party, eleven boat/contestants offered up their best chili entries for the cook-off.  A panel of six judges comprised of unbiased board members and sponsors tasted and judged the entries based upon Aroma, Color, Consistency, Taste and After Taste.  There were some very good, hot and interesting chili submissions.  In the end, Bridget Scheib won the Chili Cook-off.   Well done Bridget!  Well deserved!
Also present at the party were Tom and Marsh Taylor, representatives of the Texas Navy Association, who gave an interesting presentation on the association and the history of the Texas Navy.  Their presentation culminated in the awarding of the Texas Navy Cup to the offshore regatta series winner Stinger who posted four bullets in the offshore series.  Well done to Bee and Kevin Bednar and the crew of Stinger.

Congratulations to the winners of the Fall Chili Chase Regatta:
- Restless in GBCA Cruising Class
- Osprey in Non-Spinnaker Class
- Figaro in Spinnaker NonSprit Class
- Kenai in Spinnaker Sprit Class

I was remiss in thanking our race committee and party setup volunteers.  I wish to extend our gratitude to the following people who made the event possible and a great success.

Conditions were rough for the racers, but even more so for the race committee.  The popular "Star" pattern course was run, but unfortunately the wind and waves blew the dropped marks and committee boat out of position.  So much so that one of the marks ended up nearly on the San Leon beach.
Thanks go to our RC volunteers for setting, retrieving marks and surviving the bouncing conditions:
Scott & John Lacy - Boat Captains
Greg Casamayor - PRO
Kelley Dees
Chris Alk
Denise Christensen
Johnny Jones
Keith Marino

Also, a very big thank you goes to Kelley Dees and Marilyn Horton for preparation of the après race party chili and setup.  It was well received, attended and talked about by many.  Very, very well done!!

Also, thanks go to Bob Hunkins, our Fleet Captain, for setting up the race NOR, SI's and finding volunteers to run the race.

Thank you to all.  Looks like a successful event that must be repeated!
