CJ - I've fixed the dinner aspect of the registration and uploaded a new NOR.

Ron - I'm hoping that with more classes there will be more participation.  Giving people more options in which they think they can compete.  If not, the two will be merged at race time.

I'm glad to see the cruising and TMCA participants are signing up.  Just wondering where are the so called hard core racers.   Those that would be vying for the Navy Cup or S. Rhoads Fisher Cup. ??? <<sound of crickets chirping>>   8)

Thanks

Is this part of the TORC? How about the second GBCA offshore.  Is it also part of the TORC?  If so, does one have to sign up for both to be eligible for the Texas Navy Trophy?

Yes, yes and yes.

Because we are not doing Texas Race week this year as in the past, we are running two separate offshore races to fulfill the Navy Cup requirement.

To compete for the Navy Cup for spinnaker boats and the S. Rhoads Fisher Cup for non-spinnaker boats,  the DoG's require participation in the LYC Heald Bank and HYC Offshore and both GBCA offshore races.  The second GBCA offshore race will be in the fall on Sept. 26th which will likely be an overnight race using the former Freeport triangle (90nm) course.  The first GBCA offshore race is a 55nm day race to Sabine as part of the TMCA Spring Fling.

Need to sign up early in order to get a reserved slip as part of the TMCA Spring Fling registration.  Especially boats with drafts greater than 6'.

Chris,
There is a rumor going round that the race is now overnight rather than a day race.  Could you please confirm which it will be?
Thanks ,
CJ

CJ,
That may have been the original idea and I may have said something to that effect at the TMCA planning meeting.  But, that is no longer true.  The intent is to have a day race, starting early Friday morning, traversing the (approx.) 53-55nm course to the Sabine jetties and ending Friday afternoon/evening.  I hear there is a band playing Friday night, so we need to get there for that party.
Thanks,
Christopher

It looks like the racing schedule has changed.  Was a notice of some kind sent out or even announced on this Board?  I know some of the one design fleets have used the old calendar for their circuit planning.  For example the GBCA Spring Regatta is no longer listed but is currently a J105 Circuit race.  The Performance Cup as noted above was moved from September to March.  Correct?  Any other changes.

The racing calendar changes every year.  Some events move up or back a week or even a month.  New ones appear and old ones may disappear.  Using last years calendar to plan next years calendar without checking with the club can be dangerous.  Most OD fleets do check in with clubs to work out their schedule.

Yes, we moved Performance cup up to the spring on request to have a two day circuit stop regatta in March. Besides the fall was too crowded.  We also moved the women's regatta out of the hot summer up into the spring for more wind, as requested.  We broke up the TRW into two separate offshore races, based upon participant feedback.  The Spring/St. Paddy day event was only one day and so was rarely a circuit stop, so it was moved to late fall after Harvest Moon.

The calendar on GBCA was worked out between the three local clubs and has been posted on the website and available since December.  GBCA Sr. Members also received a wall calendar in early January, with the same schedule information.

The first of the GBCA offshore races as part of the Navy Cup will be held in conjunction with the TMCA Spring Fling to Pleasure Island in Sabine Lake.  Registration for the race portion, held by GBCA, will be free.  Participants are encouraged to register and participate in the TMCA Spring Fling.  Your $175 registration fee to TMCA will get you three night slip rental, access to the Fling, plus dinner and awards.  Those who race but do not participate in the Spring Fling will need to make your own slip arrangements.

This is a offshore day race with a pursuit style start on Friday morning May 22nd.  Going from Marker 11 in the Houston Ship Channel at Bolivar Roads, going out of the jetty into the gulf, then proceeding to the Sabine Lake entrance jetty.  Approx. 53nm.

We'll attempt to run at least six races.  Following racing on Saturday will be a party with dinner and band at the GBCA club house.

Come out for our premier regatta of 2015.  Bring your friends and get your competitors to bring their boats too.  This is a J24 Texas Fleet circuit stop - an additional $5 is collected from J24 boats at registration.

TMCA has confirmed that the fee will be the same whether staying three nights at Pleasure Island or Port Authority marinas.
Both marinas can handle deep draft boats, the problem lies in getting across Sabine lake with a draft of more than six feet.
A shuttle bus will run between the two about four times a day.

That is correct.  We are running our first offshore race in partnership with TMCA Spring Fling to Pleasure Island in Sabine Lake.  It will probably be a pursuits style start Friday morning, starting from Marker 11 in the Bol?var Roads jetties of the Houston Ship Channel, going approx. 65 nm to the jetties at the entrance to Sabine.  Details are still being worked out.

Then there is a three day weekend of seminars, dinner, awards, bands and partying.

Is Texas Race Week happening this year? I don't see it on the calendar for July.

No.  The old format wasn't working anymore for long term sustainability.  So, we are trying something new this year.  An offshore race in the spring and another in the fall.  Two races that still satisfy the Navy Cup DoG, in conjunction with LYC Heald Bank Offshore and HYC Offshore, in which a spinnaker boat must participate in all four to be in contention for the Navy Cup.

Wow!!  That was an excellent party last night!
Great venue, great band.  Everything was just perfect.
I think everyone had fun.  I know I certainly did.

Thanks to Nicole, Kelley and Marilyn for setting it up and running a great event.

If the party was a measure of how the year is going to be, it's going to be a very good year at GBCA.

If you only want to come for the drinks, sure.  Otherwise, the rest of us will be partying until 11 pm.

What is the attire for this shindig?

Chris

Formal ? which means different things to people.  Some will be in tux and long dress, some will be in suit and tie and cocktail dress, some will be in blazers.  You might even see a kilt or two.
It?s our one chance as a club, to dress up and go to a nice party.
