HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
Starts this Saturday!
Be there or be square. Aloha!
Fantastic day today. Thanks to Scotty, Chris, Bob, and all the rest of the great GBCA Volunteers. GBCA rocks.
Will be back next Saturday.
It turned out to be a great day on the bay. I will get the pictures loaded up hopefully Tuesday. I had to leave early to visit with my four Great Nephews.
Sorry I forgot to include John Lacy in my post. The Lacy's are the best thing that ever happened to GBCA. Thanks 3fbr.
Thanks Bee. We have had alot of fun. Starting our 9th year on race committiee we have learned alot from others. It takes more than just John and I to make this a great club. All the past and present Board members as well as all the great members who come out to race and party, have made this a great club. What is really fun, is to watch the racing on the water. It was a cool start yesterday between the 105's. Here are the pictures from yesterday,
https://www.flickr.com/photos/lacyphotos/sets/72157649706310299 (https://www.flickr.com/photos/lacyphotos/sets/72157649706310299) . If anyone would like the 100% sized pictures, let me know, sailsong@swbell.net (free!). It was nice seeing a few new boats as well as our Commodore Dees and Treasurer Zirilli helping out a new member. That is what this club is all about!
Scotty
I've already downloaded all the 105 shots. Thanks
40 boats came out for the first of the 2015 Cruzan Rum Icicle Series. A cool north westerly breeze 0f 10-12knts presented sailors with a refreshing return to Galveston Bay racing. Thanks to Marilyn Horton for the sailors stew to warm the stomachs.

Icicle 2 will be the 4th annual "Goulash Race".
Hans Sitter, owner of King's Biergarten in Pearland will again provide goulash soup.
(Hans is now also an author and may want to promote his new book. I doubt it will have much to do with sailing.)

Sweet comfort food! Thanks Hans!
Thanks you Gerhard for setting this up! Can't wait to see the new boat!!
This time it will still be the old Figaro.
We plan to bring "Bayou Baby" out for Judge Smails.
What does the Bayou Babe rate, Gerhard? Will you finally have to start from the back of the pack?
Gerhard.. Even verbal abuse can be considered a form of recognition. Look forward to seeing you Saturday! (Lil Bit A Bitch).
Saga 43 with a 101 non-spin rating. It appears Mr. W is becoming quite serious. That is.. if my sources are correct.
The updated handicaps are posted on the GBCA web site. Thank you to the skippers who turned in their times. To those that did not, please provide them to Bob Hunkins (rdhunkins (at) verizon (dot) net) after the race.
Thanks, and see you again Saturday for Icicle #2!

Ed:
The keel on the Bob Perry designed Bayou Girl is 8 feet long. Will be interesting to watch her drag it through the mud in the winter. Glad I don't have to race against her. Spotting something with a 40' waterline 23 seconds a mile is not my idea of fair competition --- unless its a beam reach or better.
She is beautiful down below. Sailboats sure are sexy.

Boo hoo hoo.
Ahh, a drunken lack of understanding. ;D
Oh, sorry, should have said a DRUNKARDS lack of understanding.
25 boats with about 100 hardy sailors, hot goulosh, Bee playing the squeeze box....Perfect! It was a bit cold today, but still you can not beat Texas Winter Sailing. Tramp made it out to get a few pictures from the low range marker. We tried to get back in before the finish, but Hamburg smoked us home. Great after party with good goulosh and Bee playing the squeeze box, who woulda' known. Kudos to all who went out in the cold conditions, you're right sailors!
Apologies for the confusion with the Cruising Club results yesterday. I think I'll improve with practice. If anything looks amiss, please let me know ASAP, preferably by an email. (rdhunkins (at) Verizon (dot) net).
We're crunching the numbers for the updated club handicaps. Please provide your time if you did not already do so (i.e. you don't see your time above).
See you next Saturday!
11 of the 25 boats that came out are of the Orange Cruising Club. That's so COOL!! (no pun intended).
The "hard-core" racers are not so hard-core? ;D
The new Club Handicap ratings are posted:

The "Dog" days of winter are here! Looks like 60 degrees, South winds (hopefully) at 10 kts, and Hot Dogs at the after-race party. Make plans to go out and race and make it to the GBCA Clubhouse for a great weekend. Tramp should be out for a few pictures. It does not get much better than this!
Where did you see 10 knots. Looks more like 5 to me. Hope you are correct.
Bay was absolutely flat at 4 today. Still cold but the sun was fabulous.
weather underground / disclaimer (hopefully)
For Icicle #2, Zippity has Retired after finishing.
The 5th place point (1) now goes to Stinger.
See you all tomorrow for some warmer and sunnier weather!
Might that be Doodah and not Zippity?
What a nice day on the bay. Over 60 boats braved the awesome conditions to enjoy Cruzan Rum Icicle Race 3. A great turnout at the after-race party and all the dogs were gone. A special thanks to Lynne Eddleman for helping me with the cooking and set up for the party. John took out Tramp and got a few photos of the start and finish. https://www.flickr.com/photos/lacyphotos/sets/72157650282457516/ (https://www.flickr.com/photos/lacyphotos/sets/72157650282457516/)
All the photos at https://www.flickr.com/photos/lacyphotos/sets/ (https://www.flickr.com/photos/lacyphotos/sets/) . If you would like any full sized pictures, email me at sailsong@swbell.net. Let's hope for some good weather next week. Judge Smails is in two weeks.
Scotty
Thank you for the photos. It was a good day with interesting winds.
Yes. Doodah. Sorry.

The club handicap times are updated for this Saturday, Icicle #4.
See you then!
Based on some additional times we received, there is one more revision to the club handicaps as of 5:00pm 1/21/15.
Looks like another lite air day for Cruzan Rum Icicle Race 4, but the sun should be out! I don't think the crew of Tramp will be wearing flip flops, but hopefully "Missy" will be flying. See you there!
Another fantastic day on the bay. My wonderful wife Becky got some pictures today while I flew Missy. Photos at https://www.flickr.com/photos/lacyphotos/sets/72157648140615783/ (https://www.flickr.com/photos/lacyphotos/sets/72157648140615783/). I will start on the video tomorrow.
Indeed. Couldn't be better. Didn't even see the drone though I now see it in the pictures. Thanks for the pictures as always. Looking forward to the next big thing from the sky!
Miss Missy video! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqUxAgeMDAQ&feature=youtu.be (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqUxAgeMDAQ&feature=youtu.be)
Clearly has potential. Still surprised didn't see the thing hovering around.
No, no Maarten
THIS has potential
Well I guess we would have seen that! By the way what happened to the results?

Your name was called but don't remember the place.
Don't see this race results posted yet. Seems everyone is hard at work ;)
Results are now posted in the usual place (http://"http://gbca.memberlodge.org/resources/Documents/2015%20Cruzan%20Rum%20Icicle%20Series%20Results.pdf").
If you have not already sent me your club handicap finish clock time (to the second, please), please do so. (rdhunkins(at)Verizon(dot)net)
Don't be shy if you were one of the later finishers. This might give you a bigger handicap next race. ;)
For next Saturday, Don't forget! You and your crew: wear your white duck trousers, college ascots, blue blazers, and Captain's hats with Scrambled Eggs fore and aft for the Judge Elihu Smails Memorial Regatta! (Brown furry rodents are optional).
Best dressed and/or most creative boat to be inducted into that elite hall of fame! You too can come out of nowhere, a former grounds keeper, and become Masters champion.... Wait, that's golf.
Never mind. But you too, can do that. You don't even need a reason.
I think you meant this link for the usual place:

Here's the faceoff between Chubby Boy J/70 and 77 J/92. The third leg is pretty exciting. (http://raceqs.com/tv/tv.htm#userId=8365&video_offset=&track=c00063f6-7a8d-4ca5-b5c4-a834ba1b7b57&start=2015-01-24%2012:00:01.647%20-06:00&finish=2015-01-24%2013:58:32.256%20-06:00&boat=77)
For those of you new to RaceQS.com replays: use a desktop browser with Flash player installed. And turn on your smartphone Raceqs App during the races!
That ap is neat. Just downloaded it will try it in Icicle 5. Can we see all the boats using the ap? I will be Tri-d'n True #49.
Bee, turn yours back on. Spread the word and urge others to get the ap. Great tool and nice to see the replay.
We had everything go wrong last Saturday --- including getting spectacularly fouled by Press to Meco --- so ours would have been ugly.
I will try to remember. I got a new iPhone so will have to check and see if the app is still there.

It came within about three seconds of being "Crunch to Meco" !
App is on the new phone. Now all I have to do is
Remember to start raceQs
Remember to turn tracking on the iPad (or iPhone)
Remember to get a good start.
The new club handicaps are now available.

Great pictures as usual: thank you for sharing those always it makes the day after the race good as well. Looking forward to the videos.
Missy video from "The Smails". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7cbYBqd-A4 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7cbYBqd-A4). Missy was just about at her limits. As Chris Alk said "Aren't you glad you didn't invest in the stainless steel blades?". We had a great crew on board for the last race and had great gumbo from Steve Zirilli at the after-race party. See you at the Commodore's Ball!
Did I miss the publication of the final results somehow?
The results have been up for a few days, but in case you didn't see them, they are here:
http://gbca.memberlodge.org/resources/Documents/2015%20Cruzan%20Rum%20Icicle%20Series%20Results.pdf (http://gbca.memberlodge.org/resources/Documents/2015%20Cruzan%20Rum%20Icicle%20Series%20Results.pdf)
On review of the results, we realized that Dennis Kokkinis sailed Magnum for all the races, but was erroneously reported as sailing Tipsea in Race 3. This puts Dennis with 7 points for third place. The correction has been posted.
