General Discussion / Thanks for the trophy, Stephen
March 28, 2012, 07:11:44 PM
I was sitting in my office at work today and the mailroom comes to deliver a package. I open it and discover a duplicate copy of the engraved Harvest Moon Regatta trophy with a handwritten note advising that this was my copy of the 1st place trophy with hopes that I?d enjoy it. The captain of the boat I had crewed on for the race had sent me a duplicate copy of the trophy he had been given at the awards ceremony. Thank you so much for thinking of me Stephen. Wow, what a classy thing to do. That is so cool.

Nice video of a catamaran pitch poling on The Daily Sail. What a way to make a living.

This is a good read, in case anyone is interested. Non fiction sailing.

"In 1993 Five men set off on a 86 foot long catamaran in an attempt to circumnavigate the world non stop in less than 80 days.  Another Catamaran and a Trimaran had left before them, only one came back successfully."

General Discussion / my membership is not correct
February 12, 2011, 05:17:25 AM
When I joined the GBCA, I was listed with a junior membership. If I paid 130, does that mean it should be a senior membership? Just thought I'd throw out the thread. Not that I think it matters. I've been treated pretty dang good regardless of the membership level. Cheers...

General Discussion / Donations for GBCA
June 06, 2010, 08:21:05 AM
I was at the GBCA social last night after the rum race, and had eaten some food and had a glass of beer. I looked for a donation jar or something where I could make a donation to help pay for the food and drink I had. I didn't see anything.

General Discussion / The meaning of karma
May 19, 2010, 07:23:26 AM
I'd asked what the karma logo by each persons member name on this bolg/website means and no one gave me an answer.  Here is an explanation.  If you look by someones name (I assume this is only for a paid GBCA member?) right beneath their name you see a hyperlink that reads applaud, and another one that reads smite. If you click on (applaud) for example, that person gets Karma plus one.  If you click on (smite), that person gets karma minus one. So you can look at a persons karma rating and see if they've been applauded a lot, and or if everyone is smiting them a lot.

For example, Bee is karma -26, while Christopher is karma 34.  Does that mean this is the opposite end of the spectrum of GBCA members?

So maybe no one answered my inquiry about the meaning of karma because....

Fly me there, and I'll come back for free as a crew hand. I might consider flying there myself and volunteering as crew if you have a space I could come back on just because I'd enjoy the sail.  I'm not wanting to do any partying so if you're not intending, the good lord willing, to come straight back, I'm not interested. Let me know.

I'm looking to see if I can find a good deal on a trailer sailer I can buy. I'm interested in doing the Wed. night races, and curious as to what it would take to get into it, boat wise. If I could find the right sailboat...it would have to be around the 25 ft size. Or, if you know anyone that has a sailboat meeting this size that would work for what I'm looking for and they're not using it, maybe it needs some work and they don't want to put any money in it, or whatever, I'd be interested in getting it ready for these races and maybe renting it from them for these events or whatever kind of deal I could work out with them. Let me know if you're aware of anything. Thank you sincerely.  forethcause@gmail.com

We have gotten together a group of sailors (5) with little or no racing experience and we're going to charter a boat to do the Rum Races. We have already committed to the boat at least for the May 29th race #1. We need a skipper or helmsman who knows the RRS rules. The way I see it, we don't stand a chance in hell but WTF, at least we can have a good time doing the race without pissing off everyone because we don't know the rules.  Drop me a line (forethcause at gmail.com) if you'd be interested and I can give you the info. We'd like to get the boat rated between now and then. thanks...
