I am seeing a push for everyone to go to the ORC class as PHRF spinnaker seems to be disappearing from the options for certain regattas. The options for the cruisers are to go to the Club Handicap Spinnaker class or ORC IF you have a certificate. Club handicap, I thought, initially was to encourage newer boats to enter into racing then you would graduate as some would say into the PHRF classes. Then there was the racer/cruiser green flag class which lasted briefly and also disappeared. Now PHRF spinnaker is not an option for what is to be the Premier regatta for GBCA. I know of at least 3 boats that will not be entering because of this. Racing a cruiser vs a J-Boat has never been a popular option and we are not interested in the club handicap class. PHRF donates to GBCA and supports all racing in the bay but now I can't race under that handicap. So I am going to throw this out there for discussion. I recently raced with LYC and we had a decent sized class even with an ORC class. This change is not something I am personally fond of.

Anyone else have thoughts on this shift?

Recently returned to the Houston and the sailing community, after racing stints in New York, Chicago, and San Francisco.  Great to be back! Here's the elevator pitch:  Seasoned, competitive sailor (most positions) with more than 25 years of racing in Xc, JBoat, Melges, and Viper640 campaigns.

Hi all,- just waking up out of my winter slumber and realized I need to organize crew if I plan on sailing more this season. Icarus is still wrapped up for the winter but the weather will be warmer soon.  If any of you are interested in getting on a pretty fast Corsair 760 trimaran for Rum races, local regattas, and/or just going sailing. Give me a response and we can exchange info.  I've attached a link to a picture of Icarus so you can see what she looks like.  Yes, I like bright colors!

  I got mine via USPS, but because you are on the west side of Houston, yours' may be tied up in the sorting machine change over. They started with the north side sorting center first.
  USPS pulled out there sorting machines at the main sorting centers to replace with larger ones. The new larger sorting machines are to large for the centers. They are having to knock out walls and reconfigure the buildings to get the new machines into the centers. According to press releases they are about a month behind on getting packages sorted, and out in the west side center.   

Has any one received there 2024 GBCA Calender, if so did it come in the mail or do you need to pick it up a the cub house. I am a full member and have not received mine yet. TY
