Did anyone get a picture of the rainbow last night?
It was quite surreal with the rain shower, rainbow, sunset, spinnaker up, a couple of nice jibes, perfect wind...
Life is good.
How lucky we are.
A fitting end to a fun season on the lake

btw: Thanks again Buddy, all the volunteers at CLRA, and the sponsors.

General Discussion / Labor Day Weekend, Redfish
August 31, 2009, 03:05:34 PM
Morning show hosts Dean and Rog of 107.5 are going to attempt a live feed of their morning show on Redfish Island on Friday Sept 4th.
Their plan is to transmit on Redfish, bounce a signal off Southshore, then down range to the Galleria.
They need line of sight to pull this off.

Their engineer on the show claims to have partially tested this, and feels confident they can do it.
I don't think so.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you can't see Southshore from Redfish. If you can , it's nestled in the tree line.

BUT, you can see the Endeavour...(about twice as tall)
I bet this is a case of mistaken building identity by those not familar with the area.

(Their backup plan is to do the show via iphone)

This plan sounds destined for failure. What do you think?

It's not exactly paradise out at Redfish.  Lets hope some of those attending are not too disapponted and bring some garbage bags to pack out the copious amounts of trash that washes up  ;)

General Discussion / Galveston Bay Webcam

Stumbled upon this, looking for wind:

http://www.wunderground.com/webcams/zcaptain/1/show.html

It has a nifty time lapse feature, click on the date.

If only the resolution was a just a bit better, we could see some sailboats.

If you know of other webcams on Galveston Bay or Clear Lake...pls post here.

Congratulations!  You are half way through another Houston summer, sorta.

The average high temperature should decrease from here on out.
Average high: 94 degrees...now down to 93 as of 8/17.  yeah!

Data source: NOAA, Hobby
http://www.srh.noaa.gov/hgx/climate/hobby/normals/aughobby.htm

My totally unscientific observation is that this has been a hotter that average summer, by several degrees...
I don't seem to remember this many days in the upper 90's -100's

The high pressure over Texas seems unusually persistant this summer.
Hopefully it will stick around another month or so and keep the 'canes away.
Thoughts?

The more members that do this, the better for GBCA in the long run.
Attachment has all the details.
Class limited to 30, folks from Dallas and Austin will be attending.

Be sure to do the study questions:
"At the seminar you will need your own copy of The Racing Rules of Sailing (?RRS?) and you will be supplied a copy of the latest version of the Join the Race Committee Team . The seminar study questions are on the US SAILING web site http://www.ussailing.org/racemgt/documents/RMSTUDY-Adv.pdf You must bring your completed study questions to the seminar and turn them in prior to the seminar beginning."

General Discussion / Sam's Boat Clear Lake
August 05, 2009, 07:32:43 AM
I haven't heard much about the new place.  Seems like they would have a great view of the Wed Night start action, and maybe courses 5 and 7, yet I don't see alot of folks on the patio. How is the food? Thoughts?

General Discussion / Close Call

A cable on one of the HYC cranes snapped yesterday with an Ensign attached. Luckily it was over the water, nobody hurt. Made an ugly sound as boat and lifting frame went splash.

General Discussion / Boom
July 05, 2009, 05:40:52 PM
Everyone enjoys a good, loud explosion with a little smoke on July 4th.
This guy decided to do it with his boat.

Mental note: don't forget to vent before starting 1,000+ horsepower.
Luckily just some frazzled nerves was the result.
Nobody was hurt and the fire extinguished quickly.
It sure scared the poo out of us over on F dock!  :o

The crew of "Banjo Girl" hides from the 150o heat on the "love seat" while very actively trimming the spinnaker in 0 knots of wind.  Bonus points if you can guess what's hot off the grill...

60+ boats this weekend. Numbers like that should make for some good racing and help raise some funds.
14 J22's!
It's good to see HYC is getting closer to her former glory, post Ike.
