Started by the famous oilfire fighter Red Adair and a few of his power boating buddies. (Rumor has it, they ended up lost in the fog the first year)

Kids (and adults too) will love this event.
More than a few Santas full of holiday spirit(s) on the karakoe machine keep it..uh...interesting

Entry form if you want to really get in the spirit of things, decorate your boat
http://www.clearlakearea.com/events/dc/Christmas%20Boat%20Parade%20ENTRY%202011.pdf

Last year a front blew in, making things a little exciting.  A few anchors broke loose in the spectator fleet and boats drifted into the parade route. You never know what the weather will be like...

Parade starts at 6 pm in Nassau Bay, when the fireworks go off, the parade later merges with the South Shore Harbor boats and motors past Kemah.

Stumbled upon this old GBCA event poster from 1994 in a bathroom.
Gotta love Stouts artwork.
To this day, I still hear great things about this regatta.

I can't figure out the C/C part...is that C&C sailmakers? or maybe Cruising Canvas?

I think it would be cool to make this part of it one of the Icicles series (a themed regatta, similar to Judge Smails) for 2012?
It's certainly chili weather and I know we have some foodies out there

If you have any old event posters, post 'em!

General Discussion / Go Pro Hero 2
October 24, 2011, 10:39:56 AM
Oh yeah! Just released, the Go Pro Hero 2. Live broadcasting to the web, remote control, able to do 11 megapixels pics 10 times a second...$299. Amazing.

I can see this being used on the lake, beaming over the web with a monitor at the Villa...run through an aircard...or maybe line of sight transmission from the RC boat if the range is there...
We had broadcast capability a few years ago, back in the Seabrook Beach Club days...

Another option: beam a live video feed from your sailboat during a race so grandma can see what fun you're having...hmmm..some interesting possibilities here...

Could this lead to GBCA TV, coming soon?

The local J22 fleet is well represented at the upcoming J22 Worlds (in NOLA), which start Wednesday.

The Lees, Lamberts, Voyles, Koepke, Sutton...Flynn...just to name a few!

Several boats and crews have been preparing all year (or even longer) for this event.
There are some rock stars in this class to be sure:
Terry Flynn has won it a few times, Rob Johnston is racing (yes that Johnston)

If you ever wanted to know where you stand it the world on One Design sailboat racing, a J22 is not a bad choice.

Good luck and fast racing to the Houston teams!!

Wurstfest is always a blast, and you can camp on site, at Lake Canyon Yacht Club
http://www.wurstfestregatta.com/

The first weekend is board/centerboard boats, the second weekend keel boats and multis.

The launch ramp is intimidating if you're a keel boat...but they have volunteers to help (launch early)

Speaking of ramps and water levels...

Hi Chris,
Canyon Lake is down 8? from its normal pool level 0f 909? and is dropping about 3? per week, so by the time of the regatta the lake will be down another 2? or so if the rains don?t come. This actually is about 3-4? above the level we were at for the 2009 regatta (about 896?). The ramp at LCYC was permanently extended during the last drought and will not be an issue. Unlike Lake Travis, Canyon Lake is in pretty decent shape given the severity of the drought. The Corp Of Engineers has been very good at keeping outflows to a minimum, about 50-70 cfs.

We very much look forward to all you Houstonians competing in our 43rd Wurstfest Regatta!!

Best,
Ray Leubner
Commodore, LCYC

Full youtube broadcast...

Actual race starts about 28 minutes in. Man, that's a short first leg!
It some ways it reminds me of Wednesday Night Racing with the tight race course.
The Greek boat makes quite a comeback.

Great coverage. Dig the onboard audio. The racing itself looks exciting enough for even non-sailors to watch.
I need to figure out how to stream this to my TV in 720HD...

Some of you may remember local boy done well Olympic Tornado Sailor Charlie Ogletree (and GBCA guest speaker during the GBCA Commodores Ball a few years ago!) he's racing on Team China

It has been a little warm, but the evening breeze has been nice. Come down to the bay and escape the heat!

In unrelated but still still pretty cool racing news imagine 1,908 boats; 12,000+ sailors!

"Hi Chris,
Good to see you both yesterday.  Please mention the Womens Regatta on July 29 & 30 to all GBCA gals.  The NOR is up on the HYC website under Race & Regatta - Anne Lee"

From HYC Weekly E-mail blast:
The Women's Sailing Weekend is July 30-31 at HYC. This event is the combination of three regattas over one weekend. There is something for everyone - the two day PHRF 30+ Regatta for boats 30 foot long and longer; the Catherine Spiller Regatta on July 30; and the Women's Regatta on July 31. The PHRF 30+ and Catherine Spiller Regattas require a female to helm the boat but allow males to crew. The Women's Regatta requires skipper and crew to be female.  The Notice of Race for all three events is posted online

I found these pdf links to NORS/Registration so you don't have to dig through RN and pull your hair out.
