Galveston Bay Area Racing / Re: Icicle Race Instructions
December 13, 2011, 02:23:02 PM
I wonder if the will be any ice on the boats for 2012 Icicle series, like there was in 2011? First time I ever slipped on ice when I stepped on my boat. I was born in the south and I don?t like the cold. Was any else in the 2011 boat parade other than me from the GBCA?

All

I am looking at the possibility of doing another Scout sailing day the last that everyone had a great time. Please let me know if you think that you and your boat will be able to participate. The date that I have in mind will be Nov 5 (Saturday), the plan would be to sail one of the GBCA courses. Please let me know if you would like to participate.
The Captains will try to have the Scouts do as much of the driving, sail trimming  as possible, and teach them sail trim, how to plan and hold a course, and the use of compass, most used knots, and safety. Scout will bring their own lunches, there with be at least one father(or leader) per boat. The Scouts will receive their sailing merit badge. And hopefully find the love of sailing as many of us have! Who knows you may even find some new crew!
I believe this is far enough past HMR every one will have their boats back, and ready to go sailing. If you know of other Captains that would like to participate let me know. Please e-mail me if you are interrested  ( tyoung@sugar-land.oilfield.slb.com ).

Were did the wind come from 18 to 19 knots is was so post to be 8 knots. Figaro you sailed a great race.
As I drove home to Katy Tx(70 miles) I was listening to AM radio( yes I am getting old) and they were replaying talk shows from ten years ago and I makes me think that there is no better place to than USA, and I know this for a fact because my job has me traveling all over the world, I think a fraise from ten years age best describes the American Spirit is ? Let?s roll?!  We become stronger when tragedy strikes!
My thanks to all that we able to fly a flag and I would say that ?Moon light Mile? should get and award for flying the biggest flag all the way though the race, well done Ed! And he?s from England, what a great sprit! Cheers to all and a good night!

                        Never forget!

Rum Race # 7 falls the eve of 911 ten year anniversary, in respect of those of this tragedy, I would like to suggest that if you happen to have and American on board  that you fly it. Just my thoughts, the choice is yours to make, spread the word please.   "KATANA"

If I get lucky and win a bottle of rum on the next race, I would be proud fill your cup with it at cub. You?re an outstanding sailor and gland there is  a club like GBCA that give so many great people and opportunity to get together and fellowship. ?KATANA?

The last twenty minutes of the race the wind dropped and I looked into my magic bag and pulled out a Kite, and shifted into high gear! ?Everyone Love?s  a KITE? ( and it looks good in the pictures at the finish). Other than that it was non-spin all the way! You really should get a kite. :-)

Not sure if it is right or not but in the cub class it shows "Lil Bit O' Sol" as first and "Far from Working" not scoring. I think it should be "Far from Working" with 5 pts and "Lil Bit O' Sol" with 1 pt?
But I could be wrong.

Leigh Ann

Thank you for the times, your the greatest! :-)

I had been wondering in my my mind if the extra tack I put in cause me first place or not. I beleave not now. Far From Workin can really point that boat up, my shoal draft keel does not point well.
Hopefully RR # 7 will be all down wind and reaches and light!

More great photos ! Thought I just got the bottom cleaned last week? Thanks for the photo Gary!

So will Other Woman be scored for race #5 ?

Great race and great food at the party, later. My thanks to all that made it happen!

Just a note some boats were not flying there class flag or could not be seen! Quote from the racing instructions ?Club Handicap class flag is bright orange. Yachts racing must fly the correct flags prominently or may not be scored, at the discretion of the race chairman.? When finishing later it will be harder to identify the boat crossing.  Also ?The first yacht in each class to cross the finish line will be the winner of the class and be required to record the next 4 places in her class by legibly recording the boat name and or sail numbers?.  I hope that it?s me taking the numbers, but if not please stay around and take the numbers, if possible let us know how we placed. Many thanks to all. KATANA

This video reminds me of Harvest Moon Race 2010 winds. My boat does like much more than 12 to 14 knot winds and being shallow draft, she doesn't point well, and by Thur night I was seeing 28 knot winds almost on the nose, and puching thru seas 7 to 8 ft. Said I would not do another HMR when I docked, but here I am planning to enter 2011 HMR. I must be crazy.
I guess I must love to sail and enjoy the company of the people I sail with.
