Are we going to SEC 202? :)
I doubt it. A little insect told me that one doesn't exist anymore. ;)
"A little insect told me that one doesn't exist anymore."
La Cucaracha?
Damned insects. They will outlive all of us.
Notice a few things different this year:
- We're going back to Freeport! :D
- First race will be an long overnight race, starting 1800 Thursday from the Galveston Jetty #11, going out around offshore rigs and ending in Freeport during daylight hours. Tis is to aid in navigating the channel to the new Freeport Municipal Marina during daylight. 8)
- Boat access to the new Freeport Municipal Marina requires passage under a flood gate with 69' mast clearance from MWL :o
- Entry fee into the regatta includes the slip rental at Freeport Municipal Marina. :)
The question is
Which boat was first to sign up?
and the answer is?
Well two have and Stinger and Wondering Star are there! Thanks. Have to get something special!

Bzzzzzzz!!!
As usual.
Yeah, but the Wanderer was right behind.
This is going to be a fun, but probably very hot, regatta.
The Race committee and PARTY headquartes will be at Ocean Village Hotel in Surfside. There will be a PARTY Friday night and Saturday night.
Stay at the Ocean Village and you can wander up to your room after the party without having to drive. It would also be a great place for your non-sailing friends and family. They will be able to view the finish on Friday morning and the start and finish on Saturday. Plus it's right on the beach so there's lots to do and see, if sailboat race spectating is, uh, too docile for them.
We'll have a free shuttle to transport you to and from the hotel and marina.
We've secured a discount rate for this hotel, but you have to reserve soon.
For more information: http://www.gbca.org/Default.aspx?pageId=1328709 (http://www.gbca.org/Default.aspx?pageId=1328709)
Half of our block of discounted rooms at Ocean Village are already reserved. Better reserve yours soon!
(remember you must CALL Ocean Village to get the discount; don't book online.)
While you're at it, REGISTER for the dang regatta! You know you're gonna go! Sure helps us in the planning. Thanks!
(And the earlier you register, the better your chances of winning a fabulous prize)
At KW2009 I leased two condos for 8 people for 10 days at a rate of $78/day.
Before I bailed from KW2012 I leased the same two condos for 8 people for 10 days at a rate of $78/day.
The Ocean Village Hotel is charging $80/day. Is OVH on the same level as KW?.
I think not.
$80 bucks...really? i thought the cheapest was 120-140....hard for a volunteer to pay that for two nights in order to volunteer....although it's a party i would hate to miss...
Two people per room at $160 is $80 per person per night.
;D Hey folks! Let's see some action on the registration page! The Regatta Committee is working hard to pull together another successful TRW, but it really helps us to see in advance how many boats we are working with this year as well as helps us estimate how many mouths we are going to need to serve food and beverages too. I look forward to seeing everyone come out and join the race as you have done in the past years, so get your registrations in now!
To be continued....

Bee, I'd bet Ocean Village will give you an even better rate.......for a 10 day rental.....for 8 people.......in January. ;)

One would think, but unfortunately not true. Rate goes up to $90. I guess Surfside is the new KW.
It?s going to be a good mix of sailing and ?fun?. A challenging first race, but one that?s designed to get everyone in by noon-ish on Friday. Clean-up, rest-up, then party at RC HQ, aka Ocean Village. The building is on stilts so we have a built-in shady, dry spot with sea breeze since it?s right on the beach. Day Race courses designed to be easily viewed from the beach so friends and family can see some of the action while they?re working on that sand castle.
Of course, the patented GBCA rum bar will be in full effect as well for the parties...
Will the Super Chicken be there?
With 99% certainty, my man.
We'll have fabulous door prizes at the skippers meeting. The earlier you register, the more chances you get.
So for every day you delay, Bee gets one more chance that you don't get. And he already has alot.
What? Did someone say cool trophies? ;D
Did someone say this yet? You can buy your event passes ONLINE NOW!! They are for sale using a credit card to purchase. It's $25 for the weekend. You'll get 2 passes with registration but everyone else will need to purchase one! (Buy early to help your volunteers!)

That's right folks! Purchase your event tickets online in advance this year! The price is $25/person which covers your meals and beverages(rum, beer and more rum) for both Friday and Saturday parties. As we have done in the past, wristbands will be used for Friday and Saturday parties, but you must show your event ticket or be on the "purchased" registration list to receive the wristband. TRW Registrants will receive two event tickets in their Skipper Packets.
I need to give a guarantee headcount to our caterers by July 16th, so if you can buy your event tickets in advance it sure would help me a lot on headcount estimates! As always, you can also purchase the event tickets at the TRW Skipper's meeting with cash or checks.
Speaking of headcount, what about these boat registrations? I see nine registrants so far, so I hope we see more of you step up and get registered soon. I've already cut my fingernails down so I won't be obliged to bite them off with nervous anticipation! Let's see 20-25 boats out there this year! Surfside folks are excited about having sailboat races in their vicinity for viewing, so let's give them a great show on our RETURN TO FREEPORT!
Me am my guests, Kathy and her guest ( 8) ) and Jody are going to have a really good time without you! This is going to be a fun event and our GBCA board is working hard to put on a great event. Let?s give a helping hand and get those boat registered and event ticket purchased. Weather is looking good and should be lots of stars for a great overnight cruise to Freeport along with Friday and Saturday night parties at the beach front the race is shaping up to be a really exciting event
Thanks for coming out!

Skippers and/or Snackticians:
For your convenience Pirate's Alley Cafe will be preparing boat lunches for the Saturday race. Print and fill out the order form found at
https://www.regattanetwork.com/clubmgmt/regatta_uploads/5294/SandwichOrderForm2012.pdf (https://www.regattanetwork.com/clubmgmt/regatta_uploads/5294/SandwichOrderForm2012.pdf)
and bring it to the Skipper's Meeting.
A race committee volunteer will deliver your lunches to your boat on Saturday morning.
Cool, huh?
Skippers! Just to let you know there is a Buc-ee's (#7 The Beach Store) at 4231 E. Hwy 332 in Freeport where you can pick up bags of ice and other snacks for your boat. I spoke with the general manager and he said no worries about running out of ice, they have plenty! They also serve coffee round the clock, but I told him our folks need RUM around the clock!
See you at the Skipper's meeting this Friday! Remember to bring cash or checks to sign up for event tickets and purchase other GBCA/TRW goodies!
Door Prizes!
To be given at the Competitors Briefing....
From Marina Bay Ships Store: various safety devices including wood plugs, ?TruPlugs?, flares, and air horn.
From West Marine: An inflatable life-jacket with built-in harness (value $220).
Each one of these items can potentially save a life.
If you haven't already signed up for Texas Race Week already, do so today and double your chances of winning.
Your race course awaits you....(attached is the view from the Race Committee deck).
And your slip is ready. Have you registered yet? C'mon down!
LOVE!! That marina looks beautiful!!
3 individual restrooms inside the big building (pottie, sink and shower), and there's a trailer outside that has 3 air conditioned pottie/sink/shower rooms. Throw a water hose in the boat along with your power cord as most of these slips are open right now and don't have a hose on the reel. I'll be your docking dame, so we'll be chatting as you get close I'm sure. My cell is on the info sheet you'll get at the skipper's meeting tonight. It's gonna be a HOOT!

For any notices, changes or Q&A.
So far Tango and Stinger will be using Kattack. If you want in get the app and don't forget to turn it on.
....and if you want to share your SPOT link with the race committee so we can know when you're getting close that would be much appreciated. It'll help me make sure I have a proper arrival beverage for you at the dock. Post it on the forum if you want all your fans to cheer you on, or just send it to me if you'd like.
