This year's Spring Regatta, to be held the weekend of St Patrick's Day, will be one day of long distance bay racing. Based upon input from our membership and the popularity of the Rum/Icicle Series, we've come up with some possible courses that are reminiscent of the golden days of GBCA racing - long distance! To be followed by apr?s race festivities at the GBCA lounge, deck and pool area replete with Irish beer and Irish stew, plus the customary rum and mixers.

Now all I need to do is find a green shirt!
Can I still drink black beer?
One word, Bee; GUINNESS!

Do they make black rum?
Any information on what the distance might be?
Is the start the traditional type by division, fastest division last or?

It depends upon how much breeze there is. Could be an 8nm Icicle; could be a 13nm Rum Run; I'm hoping for enough breeze to send participants on a new course that could be 25+nm.

It depends upon who and how many sign-up. Could be pursuit start; could be performance start; could be combination of both for different classes.
Looking forward to it. Hope it is on the longer side.
Consider down loading the RaceQs app to track the race and provide performance data. The J 92 and Singer have been running this. After the race, the track is uploaded automatically from your phone to when it hits a wifi connection. You can then view your race tracks as well as tracks from the other boats. Several viewing options are offered.

"The free raceQs sailing system is made up of three state-of-the-art integrated components. The phone app gives you the sailing data you need to improve your performance while logging your GPS track. The app renders a shareable 3D animated replay of your journey."

Second that. We need all the practice we can get. :)
A little less than two weeks out and the competition is shaping up. The weather looks to be a little warmer and hopefully will be a nice day to be on the water. TMCA has a good class forming. The Super Chicken is working on updating the Orange Class, so make sure your times from the last Icicle Race have been sent to El Supremo' Pollo. Get signed up and lets drink a little green beer around the Blarney Stone!
The droppings have been cast. El Pollo has spoken. Haven't had time to post them but I'll make sure to get them out to the boats that actually need them first. Bwaaack!
Is this real, or is it chicken feed!
I kissed the Blarney Stone once. YUK!. You even have to do it upside down.
Fortunately the beer was black and not green.
Any sneak peeks on whether we'll have pursuit or traditional starts? Course length? Looks like a pretty typical winter GB day on Saturday weatherwise.
I see divisions on the reg. list, so presumably traditional starts...
What would be cool is to get courses and GPS coordinates for marks.
46 friggin boats. Way cool. While SA is designing a new canting keel 30+ footer, GBCA is winning the fun game.
GBCA is definitely the place to race.
Just noticed that there are 10 Sprit boats entered. To bad a couple more of those wimpy J105's did not enter. One the other hand if Uzi entered and the winds got up above 20 he probably would have tried to cancel.
Nice to have so many boats. Should be a hoot, or maybe a toot?
And where are the 109's?
I'm excited about the possibility of starting at the same time as other boats. It can be pretty lonely back there for the first part of a pursuit race.
Hoping for breeze-on. We need the practice.
looks light for tomorrow

yep....my favorite forecast agrees....but new ride for me tomorrow so light is just fine...

Windfinder shows 1pm SE 15-g22. Wouldn't call that light air.
SI's Click Here (https://www.regattanetwork.com/clubmgmt/regatta_uploads/8004/2014StPattyDaySpringSIs.pdf)
Forecasts are all over the place. Biggest worry is thunderstorms. We can handle 22+ --- unless Uzi is out.
Thanks for the SI's
WOW. What madman designed these courses? Depending on wind direction we could be out there for a while.
Revised SI's are posted following the skippers meeting. Three changes are noted:
- corrected coordinates for the South Boat Cut 8 mark
- corrected start times for course 6
- Danelaw switched from Spin to NonSpin and subsequent rating change 105 > 125.
Based upon current wind predictions, course 3 "Star" (19.68nm) is the likely candidate for tomorrow.

Great turn out! Great plan! Good job all. We are on our 15th hr of driving home from CO spring break with the kids otherwise Banjo Girl would be out for sure.
Not sure if anyone else noticed but Stewart Stout aka SJ. Stout has entered this race. I am pretty excited to see that. Bee- you are now not the oldest skipper on the water.
Go Stout! Good Luck!
Jay Z.
S/V Banjo Girl
Damn. Guess I will have to see if I can quickly catch up. Oh wait, that's not possible. Is it?
Good to go Stout.
Thanks to all who came out to play on the Bay! 47 boat entered and 47 boats started. A special thanks to Chris Dees who came up with the courses that made for a great event. Hopefully the St Patty's Day Spring Regatta will become a GBCA/TMCA tradition. Thanks to the Stinger crew for talking Horny Toad and Kinderspel2 into stay another week after the J105 Mid Winters Championship to race with GBCA. It worked out well for Horny Toad who won 1st in the J105 class and the over all PHRF Spin Watergate Spring Regatta Trophy.
And the Party.......! Thanks to Walter Caldwell and Wyatt Smith who managed to come up with a cover for the patio...saved the day! Thanks to all who helped clean up after the party. We had a fully staffed clean-up crew! Also thanks to all the TMCA members who brought dishs to share. There was food O'Plenty!
Again, thanks to Watergate, TMCA, and all who came out to race to make this a great success. We will get the photos on the Flickr site sometime this afternoon.
Commodore Scotty
Bee,
Upload your RaceQ tracks if you had it on. Mine are up.
George
Great job to GBCA, TMCA, & Watergate for an amazing event. I was floored that we had 47 boats sign up for this first time event. If we want this to continue next year, we need to let them how much we appreciate their efforts and how much we enjoyed the format.
Chris, Dwight and their crews did an amazing job!
The weather wasn't perfect, but the course made up for it. I really hope we can do more of these type of races.

George,
Is it possible to share these online?
Thanks
See if this does it. Go to the raceQ site for details. A short video for those that want a memento of the conditions yesterday.

No photos yet. Need to get home first. Hopefully in a few hours.
Did not turn raceQs on.

Enjoy!
What a party!
I got the RaceQs link up on my laptop. After a few hickups, downloaded Google Earth plug in for IE (it asked me), eventually ran at 64x speed and full tracks. Just the J92 showed up though.
Neat bit of technology there and the price seems right! Installing a 12V DC plug in the boat soon to use the RaceQ, stream tunes, etc.
BTW: Great regatta GBCA. Getting a little chilly that 4th and 5th leg. Party was excellent. Good call on the tents. Irish stew and beer bread. Decor and party hats. Race pictures on the big screen. Those GBCA and TMCA folks really can cook! We need to utilize those talents more often. Seems like a great format. Thanks volunteers!
Thanks for the great photos!
GBCA you hit it out of the park! The race was as one of my crew described it, "a Rum race on steroids!" Love the course and great job on Chris's part on running the race and the race instructions. As usual too many people to thank for a great experience on the water Saturday and the great party that followed. By the way, great trophies! 8)
