Great idea adding that last page of the SI's... That should help RC alot, although I do enjoy seeing the creative ways folks record their results
For example: bilge soaked paper, a piece of cardboard beer box, brim of a hat, scraps of spinnaker.... ;D

I prefer beer soaked paper.  Better then those you listed Chris.  Provides the proper aroma for the following
party.  If one can simultaneous spill beer all over oneself and show up soaked as well, well that's even better.

Hello happy holidays

Does anyone know of a temperary deep slip that we can use for the icycle series in case there is a norther again.  Firewater has spent some time in the mud.  I know that HYC races we could get a slip there before the race.  Did not know if anything was available through GBCA, Watergate, Seabrook, or Kemah marinas.

Specs say 7' 6"

at Legend point next to Katana

Walter says 6'2" by boat documentation

at 6" on the depth sounder we start touching the mud.

Deepest marina here is Kemah Boardwalk.  Stinger's draft is 6.5' and the only time we ever touched bottom was after Ike when the Bay was down a couple of feet.  Even then what we hit was left over from Ike. Cliff Haddox kept Musica there and her draft was 8.5' I think. He still had a problem getting out of the Kemah channel.

Kemah Boardwalk does allow non-resident boats in --- 281-334-2284 --- but they are expensive.  I moved Stinger there once during one of the 'canes that did not do much damage and what I remember was something like $30/night.  Might be better to get a slip for a month ~$325 and then leave after the Icicles.  If you try to do this, don't sign a contract.

I don't know of any marina that will let you in for free.  Mostly and insurance issue I think.

Thanks Bee

It doesent hurt to ask around, nothing ventured nothing gained, and i didn't get slapped.  ;D

Anyhow that is what we might do move on friday and use a slip for getting out in the am.  Unless we get a norther that lasts a week the day rate is cheaper.
Thanks again
Shawn

Hi Shawn

I can fix that draft problem, quik haul and a hacksaw. We can make a party out of it!
You know I really love you guys, let me know if you need a tow!

I believe there was actually a J27 that did that, a dozen or so years ago when it was sold locally and moved for lake sailing. I 'think' it was the green one...s/v Big Dill? Rumor has it, kept the sawed off portion of the keel and regrafted when he later resold the boat...someone can (please) correct my story...

I wonder what that would do to your PHRF...hmmm...

My wife(Carol) came up with a better idea, go back to crewing on KATANA, no more worries about low water!
Let the fun begin!!!!!!!!! Just add water!

OK

We have a spot to move to before the race.  No we will not chop off the keel.  We will use it for pointing.  I do not know how the mud is going to effect our rating.  I really hope to not have the same wind as turkey day races and watch the boat go backwards again in the tide.  We almost threw out the anchor.

Good luck Terry keep the crew out of the rum.

Please make sure to clearly display which class you are racing in. We only ended up scoring 4 boats in Non-Spin because a boat we thought was in our class turned out not to be. 5th was either Tenacious or Joan III but since we thought we had already scored 5 boats, we left before they finished. Thanks!  8)

Wow

That was so much better than the turkey day race.  I hate going backwards.  I am glad we did not trim the keel but we did have issues moving the boat.

I was watching the weather and saw the 5 knot wind to the west of us and am glad it stayed west.  I was down below when they loaded the boat up and everything was flying around the cabin.  Water was rising in the sinks and we had to stop to drain the sinks and close the valves.

Each of us was asking why do we do this?  It was warm in my bed.  The women think we are crazy. (and we are)  Maybe it was the hot todies that inspired us because at the end of the race i dont remember being cold and wet.  I know that we will have a rush on dry boots at west marine today.

Terry i have some wood i can donate to solve that 3 foot draft problem on Katana.  Maybe a centerboard that raises and lowers.  All you have to do is cut a hole in the bottom of the boat.  Actually have a diver check to make sure they put the keel back on after the bottom job. ;D

Actually next week it probablty will be light and we will owe you beer.  Hey were is that beer anyway im thirsty.

Se ya next week and Thanks for the hot todie recipe we will double the batches and have four thermoses full.  If you see us going the wrong way we got into the todies too early.  If you see s's in the water that is normal that means Walter is driving.

True
very true
We had a woman on our boat.  Cindi did very well in the cold weather.

I just couldn't talk mine into going.  And when Walter asked Maralin she just laughed.
we tried mine is not a hard core racer yet, just a fair weather sailor.

SOunds like great turnout for I#1. Icicle#2 looks good. Nice looking (long range) wx for Saturday. Footsieball doesn't start until 3:30pm.
Heck, that's plenty of time to do it all...sail, then catch the rest of the games at the clubhaus.
I like that plan.

Oh, and Sunday morning, jump in the corporate jet to New England town... ;)
My weekend plan seems watertight, all except the jet part...
(Note: my investment in the lotto still hasn't paid out)

Fun but cold race, congratulations to Fire Water and her first place! But you know the only reason you made it out of the dock Shawn was because, I had my diver cut 8 inches off your keel, he will but I back on in the fall. Breaking  in new crew on KATANA(lost half of them to FireWater), hope to do better on Ice #2. Well done Walter, I will bring the beer I owe you on Saturday.
On another note love the new calendar! I was looking at it Saturday night and was enjoying looking at all the great photos on each month and thinking how great it would to make the calendar one year, and so I put it on my bucket list and closed calendar, and there on the front page was KATANA with her kite up( how sweet is that) heading for the finish line! Great shot, were can I buy more calendars and how much are they?

Agree with Dollfin (post 24) on (better) showing class flags, especially in the foggy murky conditions of Saturday.

Just for the record then: Joan III finished 5, ahead of Tenacious.

Another fun race, wind range 3 to 25 knot winds, someone at the party said they saw 32 knot. And that fog I could not see the range mark till I was within 300 feet of it. And the fog reminded me of some horror movie I use to watch, and was expecting a zombie to come out or the fog and board my boat at any time. And the chili at the party was great, my thanks to cooks.  Great sailing FireWater( first place again) when they change you?re rating for the next race, I bet have you starting on ?Sunday? to give us all a chance. And Figaro that?s a nice kite. Can?t think any were else I rather be, than sailing with you all. ?KATANA?

I forgot to turn the cameras on for Icicle 4.

Someone needs to check the Ice #4 Series Results, it is miss marked, it shows FireWater "0" and Figaro "2" it should be FireWater "2" and Figaro "0" sorry Gerhard, Walter needs the points! "KATANA"

Although we sincerely thought Blind Ambition had held our lead at the finish of Icicle #3, close review of the photos show that Big D did edge us out at the last second. Someone should have done a "Lightning McQueen" (from the movie "Cars") and gone too the bow and stuck out their tongue.  8) Anyhow, please adjust the results accordingly. Thanks!

Points have been corrected. Standings did not change though.
My apologies for the typo.  I guess I need stronger reading glasses.

Just a reminder, The Judge Smails Regatta is the last race of the Icicle Series. To win the overall Icicle Series, you must be a Senior Member of GBCA. Tramp will be out along with celebrity judges on the "Flying Wasp Class" "Flying Kiss" (weather permitting) to judge your finest attire. Tramp will not take time Todd ;)! If crew is needed, a new crew finder posting is up. It should be a glorious finale to the Icicle Series.

Is the award for the WASP class based on look-a-like or most WASPy or simply best derssed in the fashion of the genre? I am working on it.

Chris

I think there was a mistake in the Club tie breaker Skalawag should have been first and FireWater second. Both had two first place ( 10 points each ), but Skalawag next high was a second place( 4 points ) and FireWater had two second places( 2 + 2 = 4 points ), so Skalawag had the higher next score for the tie breaker. I have crewed for Walter ( FireWater) and he has crewed for me (KATANA) and he is a good friend put he is true sportsman. I hope I am wrong about this, but I believe that I am rite, so I have brought it to your attention. I know you have a lot on you plate trying to score all the groups in a short amount of time, so the chances of a mistake is increased.  "KATANA"

Terry,

You are correct.  Skalawag does win on the tie-breaker.  I've already spoken with Walter and Todd to correct the error.
In the rush to score the results when Club and NonSpin had changing results, I inverted the placing on the printout.

Thanks

Here is a highly edited video from Icicle 5.  I had one camera facing backwards and one forwards.  The one looking back used the open back so the sound from that is a bit annoying.  I would recommend you turn down the sound for this one.  I include a couple of tacks so you can see how bad I do those, but the rounding at E is by far my favorite.

I was really impressed with the number of boats out there.  I wished the camera was a little less wide angle.  It made the boats behind look like they were much further back then they actually were.

It was truly a beautiful day.  The party was great as usual, and the pulled pork was excellent.  GBCA is definitely the place to sail.  Anyone who does not support GBCA is really missing  the bet.

Jack,

I had 3 people at the clubhouse telling me that Further was sporting a white flag.  A review of the pictures from Tramp (posted here) confirms a white flag flying from Furthers backstay.

White is for the Spinnaker class.

Terry

We were told after the announcement.  But we are holding on to the memory of the moment.  We did get second, but we drank the bottle anyway.  I don't think they handed out bottles or trophies yet maybe at the Ball.

Whose bottle did we drink?  Maybe it was the superbowl party.
anyone have some asprin?

Good fun see ya next series.
