Chris,
Maybe you could talk the rest of the Stinger crew into losing 60lbs :o

Galveston Bay Area Racing / Re: Icicle Race Instructions

They open for me fine.  Chris saved it in Word 2010 format (*.docx) and you're probably using an older version.

Chris, can you re-save as a Word 97-2003 format (*.doc) ?

2ft is almost enough water for a RIB with a 3hp outboard.  Make sure it's got a kick-up mount:-)

I haven't heard of anyone in a sailboat who does anything but anchor out and take a RIB to the dock.

You know, there's a money maker for Topwater and Bubbas...  I've seen and heard of countless restaraunts / bars that provide dinghy service to/from the moorings.  Wouldn't it be nice if you could call Bubba's on Channel 16 and have a water taxi waiting for you once you anchor?

If you're pressurizing with CO2 then you'll carbonate the fluid.  Might as well fill the container with beer!

Galveston Bay Area Racing / Re: Club Championship???

Whew!

While I was at HYC on Saturday, it was mentioned that none of the clubs had registered.  I guess if there is no registration form then there is no way to register:-)
Hopefully, GBCA and the other area clubs will start hollering and let HYC know that they're willing to come out and play next weekend.

Sonars and J-22s - should be a great competitive event!

Galveston Bay Area Racing / Club Championship???
October 15, 2011, 07:49:10 PM
Today was the deadline for registrations for the Galveston Bay Club Championships.  HYC is hosting, but nobody has registered for the event next weekend!!!
There must be some miscommunication between HYC and the other Clubs.

Congrats Karen and crew!!!  There are a lot of folks around here that are proud of you.  Nicely done.  But, why did you wait till the last race ???

Knowing that there may not be the highest level of interest in Youth level regattas around this forum, there are nevertheless two Primiere events being held on the Bay in the next couple of weeks.

Texas Youth Race Week is a week long Junior Olympics event that will be held at TCYC on 9-11 Jul (Sat - Mon) and both HYC and TCYC on 13-15 Jul (Wed-Fri).  Over 100 Optimists, 420s, Lasers, and more racing on three lines!!!  Additionally, the Area F Eliminations for the Youth Single hand, Double Hand, and Tripple hand Championships will be going on at the same time.

Then, the following week, 16-24 Jul, the US Optimist Nationals will be held at HYC.  Imagine...  250+ children in Optis on the course at the same time!!!  There will be team racing with over 120 boats, a Girls Championship, and the Main Event of Fleet Racing over 4 days (21-24 Jul).  Spectators are welcome and encouraged.

C'mon...  How many of you have seen 250+ boats on the same course at the same time?????

I'll be running the Green Fleet (PRO, Race Committee) - beginners learning to race.  We'll have 70+ children on this line alone!  Anyone interested on coming out and working Race Committee for this?  I've got a few slots open for this amazingly fun event.  The big fleet racing is Thu-Sun (21-24 Jul).

Bottom line - if you've never seen children racing in events like these, you're missing something very special.

Must have been some great racing!  5 different boats won races - 6 races total.  The winning boat only won 1 race.

General Discussion / Re: Sponsors and your Email
June 14, 2011, 07:49:23 AM
Absolutely positively NOT!  GBCA requested my personal information as a condtion of membership and participation.  There is a legal expectation of privacy and security attached to that.  Under no circumstances do I want any of my personal information, e-mail address or anything else, given to anyone outside of the administration of GBCA without my express individual consent.

If, when we joined, we accepted "Terms and Conditions" that permitted GBCA to pimp our our personal information to whatever vendor asked, then that would be a different matter.  But, I never clicked an "Accept" button that contained that sort of sell-out.  C'mon, there are dozens of local businesses and hundreds globally that would just love a targeted list of potential customers and many are willing to pay for those lists.

And our up and coming sailors will be competing in the Optimist Nationals in mid July.  This event will  bring more boats / competitors than all those other events combined - 400 expected.  Team Racing, Girls Championship and the big event with the Red/White/Blue sailors competing for the National Championship.  Most fun of all will be the Green fleet (sailors who are just learning to race) who sail on their own course.

Want to see some first class racing and Race Committee work, stop by...
