General Discussion / Re: Local Equipment Rentals?

Thanks for the response. I managed to get a very nice life raft, along with a simple InReach device for communications. Now all I need is some crew to help take the boat to Annapolis...

General Discussion / Local Equipment Rentals?
May 10, 2019, 08:35:48 AM
Can anyone tell me where I can rent a valise-type life raft in this area? I need one for a month or so. Triad does not rent them. Also looking for a reputable local place to rent an Iridium phone for a month or so also, other than through Verizon.

I/we very much appreciate it, and the support. Not enough members on Facebook to justify anything yet, but hopefully soon enough.

I set up a Facebook group called SOS-Tex, thinking it can be an affiliated, but separate group. The idea will be to have a loose group of local people who are interested in promoting single- and double-handed sailing in not only Galveston area races, but beyond.

I plan to do this race if there will be an SOS-Tex class.

I am VERY interested in a revival of the SOS-Tex group, not just for racing, but for gaining experience from single-/double-handed offshore sailors. Other sailing areas seem to have active groups (c.f., www.sfbaysss.org). I wonder if there could be an effort to allow an SOS-Tex class to our local offshore races.

We were just informed that we are on a waiting list for a slip with power. There are 11 boats on the list for 8 slips with electricity.

Do I get any points for being first to sign up? I need a few.

I have a crew member who is looking for a car ride back from Port A to Watergate Marina on Saturday (27-Oct) after the race. Is there anyone who can help out?

Athena came in at 1924 in Rum Race #8 last night. We were about one boat length behind Wandering Star.

Athena, Rum Race 5 time: 8:33pm. Our times are not improving, but at least we keep learning new tricks. One of these days we'll pull them all together.
