Please remember today is 17 year Memorial or "911" (Sept 11, 2001) Never forget the innocent that died, the those that gave there life's to trying save others. Take minute and take a First Responded today. I remember watching video of Captains of many different size vessels give aid to people and taking them to safety as well, I believe many of us members would do the same if need here.

Galveston Bay Area Racing / KATANA sold
February 21, 2013, 09:26:01 AM

KATANA is now been sold to Shane Jackson, Shane has crewed for me on Katana since Oct 2012 and crew for me in the 2013 Icicle races and has be at the 2012 HMR party and most of the 2013 Icicle party. Shane is new to sailboat racing, but grew up in the Clear Lake area, is still have much to learn but is egger to learner, and will be crewing on other boats to improve his knowledge. He says that he is really a cruiser but enjoys the fellowship that he has found in the club racing, so if you see him sailing out there on KATANA or at one of the parties say hi to him, he is a little shy at first but once you get to know him, you find him to be a really good guy, and hopefully the GBCA team member some time soon. As for me I will be crewing for the roughest, meanest captain of the fleet Walter H. of ?FireWater?, hopefully this will free up some time for me to do some volunteering for the GBCA. Terry Young

Crew Finder / Looking to crew for the Gulfport Race
April 05, 2012, 10:53:11 AM
Looking to crew for the Gulfport Race! I am a 52(will turn 53 in the race) year male, 6?1? tall 220 lb.  and I am the Captain and owner of ?Katana?( Hunter 34), I have be in over ten Harvest Moon Races, and the four times I have entered my boat, I have trophy every time. I have also trophy in the GBCA, Rum Races, and the Icicle Races as well. I have been crewing in the Wednesday Night Race on Clearlake for about twelve years now, and I have been crew for the fleet champion, for a number of years. I raced in Vera Cruz Race in 2002 and made in time for the party.  I will not be able to help bring your boat back, but believe I have someone to take my place for the return. If you need more crew I may be able to bring in some of my crew, or friends. Terry Young 281-285-8933, e-mail is   tyoung@sugar-land.oilfield.slb.com

All

I am looking at the possibility of doing another Scout sailing day the last that everyone had a great time. Please let me know if you think that you and your boat will be able to participate. The date that I have in mind will be Nov 5 (Saturday), the plan would be to sail one of the GBCA courses. Please let me know if you would like to participate.
The Captains will try to have the Scouts do as much of the driving, sail trimming  as possible, and teach them sail trim, how to plan and hold a course, and the use of compass, most used knots, and safety. Scout will bring their own lunches, there with be at least one father(or leader) per boat. The Scouts will receive their sailing merit badge. And hopefully find the love of sailing as many of us have! Who knows you may even find some new crew!
I believe this is far enough past HMR every one will have their boats back, and ready to go sailing. If you know of other Captains that would like to participate let me know. Please e-mail me if you are interrested  ( tyoung@sugar-land.oilfield.slb.com ).

Galveston Bay Area Racing / Saturday Night Races
March 23, 2011, 01:51:13 PM
I looks like we will be meeting at the Villa Capri Italian Restaurant for the awards after the races. Does anyone know what the dress code is, can wear my racing shorts and shirt and flip flops, or need to wear my Judge Smails clothes. Looks like a real nice place to meet and a great view of the lake. Look forward to seeing you all on the lake!   :-)

Galveston Bay Area Racing / Cynthia Woods sinking on TV
February 10, 2011, 07:15:30 AM
Did anyone watch Animal Plant (Direct TV ch#282 )  Wednesday night(02-09-11) at 9 PM? They have a show name ?I can?t believe I?m alive?, they had the story of the sinking on the Cynthia Woods in the 2008 Veracruz Race were Roger died. Not sure how much is accrete,I thought they had escaped the cabin though the companion way not though the top hatch way. I know the footage of the start was not right, there was mountains in the back ground, never seen any mountain Galveston!  I guess it is just a reminder that what we do, has danger?s and to try to be prepared, always have a ditch bag ready when sailing offshore. Roger you are missed!
