conflicts with the GBCA rum race.  I think this will hurt participation of the Reggae Regatta.

Galveston Bay Area Racing / Re: Rum Race Results

Looks like they have us both as scored now @Walter.  I too had noticed and then checked on my PHRF certificate that apparently I had forgot to renew this year.  ...first time out since HMR last year so I hadn't thought about PHRF certificate or much related to the boat lately but it was great to be out sailing Banjo Girl again.  I noticed Shaken not Stirred also was not in the 2019 PHRF database.

My guess is that we were scored DNF due to some automated GBCA thing due to us not having a current certificate.  Could this be the case?  I will renew mine before the next time out.  My rating should be the same unless I decide to apply for the new roller furling credit and then I guess I'll be able to start a little earlier next time.

not sure the weather will be any good but doubtful that I'll make it out.

I'm wondering if the TGIF series ever got any traction.  I may take the old girl out Friday.

Cheers,

General Discussion / Re: Local Equipment Rentals?
June 17, 2019, 10:28:38 PM
I don't think there are any local places that rent life rafts.  You should be able to rent a Sat phone from a variety of places though.  ...just maybe not locally.

I think I've got the boat ready to enter I suppose but there is only one other boat...

Scott,

Is the NOR available?

I believe in short that Scott is saying  PHRF assumes a well prepped boat and crew as the benchmark.  If your boat is not well prepped and your crew sucks work on that rather than asking for or expecting a rating adjustment.

Galveston Bay Area Racing / Re: Why are we not racing?

- Too competitive
- Crew too old          ...no but the boat is too old.
- Skipper too old
- It's expensive
- I've raced too much
- Too hot
- Too sunny
- No crew                  ...yep,  It is hard to keep a crew if you don't consistently race.
- Boat is too old to be competitive   ...Maybe but I don't really care about that.
- Start time needs to be earlier/later   ...wouldn't mind the rum races starting later.
- I don't like the host club       ...no problems with any of the host clubs but I think race management as well as participation is not at an all time high.
- Have to wash the cat   ...code for something I'm sure.
- Domestic complications  ...no comment
- Boat needs work   ...what boat doesn't
- Kids are racing, I can't go racing   ...amen to this they keep us busy.
- Too many races   ...used to think this was a problem and why participation was so low.
- I don't like pursuit courses   ...these are great but I don't like that they are becoming more the norm for anything but pure racing fleets.
- I don't like windward/leewards  ...hardly ever is this a valid excuse.
- I don't like the event
- I've won too many trophies
- I sold my boat
- Or anything else.....

Banjo Girl is in for tonight.  I'll know when I leave the dock if spin or non-spin -depending on who shows up.

Looking like non-spin.

I'm thinking about taking the Banjo Girl out for this with a bunch of the young LYC Seahorse campers.

Is this spin only?  just need to know so I can bring along another adult or two if need be.

Too Bad...  I wish we all weren't so damn busy and preoccupied with other stuff so that we could do more of these types of races.

Anyone doing this tomorrow?

Banjo Girl going out to excercise some of her neglected systems...

Thanks John. I checked them out.  Great photos but not my kiddo.

I heard from Alex from Bahama Rigging that there may be some photos taken of my 13yr old that was kiteboarding that day over at El Jardin...

Any chance in having a look at those?

Thanks,
