I plead the fifth. Actually, when there's a little wind and the water is flat, we sail "poleless" wing-and-wing with our a-sail without a lot of drama, but it's a small, fractional a-sail and not much of a sprit. The last icicle race we did put the whisker pole out while the a-sail was up on the windless second leg. I did not pay enough attention to these rules also, thanks for letting us know.

I want to thank Rafael for featuring photos taken from my boat in his music videos. Like his post said, you can download any of the photos from the "Flickr" website. The photos are also sorted into albums of each different race since 2015 at:

I just added an album of some of my favorites from 2017.

I think the photos add a lot to the race experience and the fun, I hope more people will bring a camera along on the races. Most of the photos we get are from the middle or back of the race, we need more photos from the front.

I'm looking forward to being on the bay for the icicle races.

After I read these posts, I watched the raceQs replay of race 4. I saw it was clearly obvious at least one boat entered the Ship Channel, mine. Now that's embarrassing.
After rounding the mark, I was looking for an opening to tack and cross a line of starboard tackers to windward without fouling any of them. The position of the inbound ship made it look like none of us were that close to the channel yet. RaceQs shows I got a couple boat lengths into the channel before I tacked. I should have paid more attention to the chart plotter and I definitely will the next race.
Thank you for reminding us to be more aware of our position when we are near the Ship Channel. I have sent an email to the commodore requesting to be disqualified from race 4 for sailing out of bounds.
You are right, there were several boats that entered the Ship Channel in race 4. But, at least for me, it was in no way deliberate nor caused by not being able to attend the party afterwards.
Hope y'all are having a great time in Galveston this weekend. Wish I could be there, hope to be able to be in race 5 next weekend.
