You might try phrfgb@gmail.com and ask if they have contact info in their database for the boat.

Thought I'd let you all know, you made a huge impression on a very young sailor Saturday evening.  A family from Grapevine was down here for Texas Youth Race Week with their son who is new to sailing (Optimist Green Fleet for those who know).  They were on the boardwalk having dinner when the Rum Race fleet was sailing back in and this boy was hanging over the railing naming the boat types and going on and on about which boat was a faster racer than the other.

Another example of how we all influence sailors of all ages.  Well done gang:-)

Nothing personal Ken, Chuck, Fred...  But with the handicap that Revolution has, an even moderately capable J/24 should correct out ahead.  That OD35 is very tough to sail to its numbers.

One thing that catches my attention is the desire for many sailors to accept winning a pickle dish (even for second place) in a three boat fleet.  Doesn't it matter more if you win a third place award in a 12 boat fleet?  Doesn't it bother folks to see 3 boat fleets for PHRF A Spin, PHRF B Spin, PHRF Sprit, PHRF "dirty-bottoms", etc...  I fully understand the frequent handicap number disparity, but isn't it more interesting / exciting / meaningful if there are 12 boats in your start / fleet?  I look at the chatter from the rum / icicle races and I see bunches of spin boats (non-spin and Club Handicap too) enthusiastic about racing against / with a ton of boats - there is competition there!!!

One thing to consider for a future event like this would be to avoid overlap with the camps the clubs run around this time of the year. At Lakewood we have one camp finishing and the next one starting on this weekend. Most of our youth is either participating in the camps or coaching/counseling.

Talk to the youth sailing folks at the clubs! They will get the word to the kids! At LYC that's the chair of the Seahorse Committee and the Sailing Director.

Good point!  "If you build it, they will come" worked for Kevin Costner.  But you need to coordinate, especially for youth events.  These days, you can't over publicize and you've got to work with other clubs / organizations just to get the minimum number of boats out to make a break-even event.

I hope this works out.  It's a great idea and we need to do everything we can to get (and keep) younger sailors in the sport.

General Discussion / Re: Traveling with PFD's

Pack the cartridge separately from the PFD.  Better yet, have sealed packages of new cartridges packed separately from the PFD.  Hedge you bets and mail/ship new cartridges to your destination.

John and Scot, Tramp is the best RC boat on Galveston Bay.  Not just the platform, but the folks aboard.  Thanks for the help as Signal Boat for the PHRF line on the Elissa.  It's always a pleasure and fun to be aboard.  All I had to do this weekend was honk horns.  That's because Tramp and crew were so well prepared and experienced.

THANK YOU:-)

Quick update on the Elissa Regatta this weekend (6-7 Apr) at HYC.
First gun both days is 10:30.  In addition to the Pursuit line, the One-Design line will be set up off of HYC.  The PHRF line will be south of Red Bluff and northeast of Seabrook #2.  To make it convenient for everyone to plan on where to launch and keep boats, here's the tentative plan on which fleets will race up by HYC (One-Design line) and which will be near Seabrook #2 (PHRF Line):

-  One Design Line
   Viper
   Ensign
   Lightning
   J/22
   J/24
   J/70

-  PHRF Line
   J/80
   J/105
   J/109
   PHRF Spinnaker

-  Pursuit Line
   Pursuit spinnaker
   Pursuit non-spinnaker
   PHRF non-spinnaker

If there are additional classes they will be assigned to the line that's most appropriate.  The One-Design line will be set up to cater to circuit racers and fleets that will have races lasting 45-60 min. and the PHRF line will be set up for the larger boats and have courses set up for races of 60-75 min. Obviously, the PHRF line will have longer legs set up for boats of lower handicaps and the One-Design line will be more for smaller circuit racers looking for the max number of races.

Cranes and trailer storage should be plentiful at HYC, there are two large cranes for keelboats as well as a third crane for centerboarders.

As of this evening there are 59 boats registered with more to come!!!  Many of the J/Classes are holding circuit events at the Elissa, so the turnout of these classes should be pretty big and competitive.  The Pursuit Line has also got a very large number wanting to do the tour of the upper Bay.  Setting up to be a great weekend with super racing, entertainment, dinner, auctions, and lots of fun!!

Wished I had come out.  Would have been fun.

Maybe next year.

There are a lot of people who would pay money to see Bee strapped into a kite ;D :o ::)

Very glad to see that this was a success!!!  Well done!

It's time again for the Elissa Regatta!  HYC has scheduled a super dynamite event with dinners, parties, bands, and much fun!  Mark your calendars for 6-7 April.

Here's a link to the page where you can find registration
http://www.houstonyachtclub.com/Racing/RaceSchedule.aspx

There are a couple of new things this year:
-  A pursuit line will be set up near HYC for those not looking for the hyper-competitive excitement of your typical windward / leeward races
-  A racing line will be set up down in the Seabrook area of the Bay for the larger PHRF and one-design racers.  Close for those in Clear Lake with longer races tailored to that crowd.

HYC wants to encourage everyone to come on up for the Competitors Briefing on Friday evening, dinner and party and more on Saturday, and the awards excitement on Sunday.  Special arrangements have been made for any boat that wants to spend the weekend in the HYC harbor, so reserve your space early!

This will be a circuit stop for both the J/24s and the J/70s. They're expecting J/22s, J/80s, J/105s, and J/109s too.  There are also plans for Vipers, PHRF spin (windward / leeward and pursuit) PHRF non-spin (pursuit), A-Cats (if they guys are healthy), Lightnings, Ensigns, and whoever else can make a 3 boat class.

More details to follow.  So, stay tuned!!!!

I thought the little cooler that LYC gave out for trophies was a disappointment, don?t they know that racers like to hang shiny things on their wall. Or is that only me thinking out loud O well I am only crew now so it does not really affect me I guess. Just my thoughs.

Whatever happened to "...the respect and admiration of your peers."?
Something functional that you'd have out on display (coolers, coasters, thremos bottles, bags) get seen, get used, and give memories of a fun weekend many times more than some pickle dish.  I say well done!!!

How much did you pony up as registration fee for this?  I wonder how close LYC came to break-even?  Few realize the time, effort and expense that goes into something like this.

Don't smite Kevin - he's got more time under sail than most of us.  Or is it time under rum???:-)
You are more than welcome to mine.  When our C&C was totalled in Ike the wreck ended up somewhere in Long Island.  You can walk the marinas up there and try and find it!  The new owner is a nice guy.

Based on the moving handicap rules of this class, won't it all come out in the wash eventually?  I think that was what Kevin Box had in mind when this was set up - everyone has their number adjusted after every race to pull all competitors together regardless of boat length, sail plan,or initial handicap number.
