Thanks for coming out....

Three minutes and five seconds between first and last finisher (uncorrected) after 90 miles!!!  Sounds like a pretty nifty sail.

Oopsie...  someone should remind me how to read race results....  Especially ones that include days/hours/minutes and seconds.

I'll go hide my head now...

14 boats signed up and the wind supposed to blow 20!!  Can't wait!!

Hey, that quote sounds familiar!!  ;D  Really wish we could have entered our boat, but darn that common sense - it would have been fun to have debuted our newly repainted Soling and I really, really wanted to test my driving skills again (Look out for the legally blind chick at the helm!). Really can't wait to have our own bigger PHRF boat for bay racing! We did catch a ride on Danelaw so we'll still be out there at least.

My dear sainted mither always said, "A good remark bears repeating."

I knew I had swiped it from someone - I just couldn't remember who.  Thank you!  I love it.

A great and windy start to the season for Series 1 Race 1

Looking for last weeks results...

Is this the right link for PHRF Spin?

http://www.clearlakeracing.org/index.php?option=com_weblinks&view=category&id=44&Itemid=72

Um..  the page says," PHRF Spinnaker Year to Date Results
Written by Buddy Brown

I'd be inclined to say , "No".

I don't think there are any 2011 results up yet - but I'd be happy to be wrong.

Since Shelton isn't available, Beverly has kindly offered me a crew spot on the J40.  Woo hoo, big boat, big winds, big fun!!

The Mutineer Nationals are at Lake Grapevine starting June 28.  I think there will be a couple of local sailors entered.

If you haven't renewed your PHRF certificate, and don't live close to HYC you can do it by calling Julie at HYC - (281) 471-1255 -  and then faxing or sending a copy of your check in an e-mail.

I suspect you could drop off a check (they can't take credit cards or HYC club charges) tomorrow morning at HYC, but why risk running late?

Next Rum Race #6 is August 14th.
A nice warmup to the Single/Mixed Doubles Regatta 8/14-15 8/21-22

or August 21-22

Just to clarify...

The next rum Race is Aug. 14 and the Singles/Doubles is the 21-22.

Right?

I believe the spelling of the 3rd place boat in SOS needs a "V" instead of the "S"

Agreed.  The Beneteau is named Vela and it was their first ever Rum Race!   :D

I believe the correct name for the 3rd place finisher in the SOS class is "Vela".  I know it's a Beneteau and the skipper and his crew, Kelly, were at the workshop in the morning.  It was their first Rum race, too!

With regard to picking favorable weather-windows for the sailing the ship-channel ...

... We had the basic idea correct this weekend (May 8/9th); having NE-ish breeze for the trip to Galveston that clocks to SE-ish for the return to Seabrook is a good overall plan.

... A couple of fine-points, though ...

... It's probably better to start a bit earlier in the day than 6pm(ish), and closer to the beginning of the the weather window. That way you don't wind up beating out to South Cut, making a dozen hitch-tacks to stay on the weather side of the commercial traffic in the upper end of the channel, and a couple of more hitches while traversing the HSC-TCC-ICW junction. It might also be nice to have some, umm, more obvious landmarks and maybe a larger choice of eateries, if arriving before moonset (although O-Malley's worked out very nicely on the latter).

G4B

...  a few fine points from Grinder's grinder...

Was it **only** a dozen tacks, Skipper???  And did we really need the genoa?  And next time you want me on the foredeck in the dark to drop the jib....  could you arrange a bit lighter wind?

and, umm..er..  folks...  Those lovely bright lights on starboard as you get to the channel are NOT a marina!!  It's Seawolf Park!!

But other that that...  when are we gonna do it again??
