Three J/24s are in desperate need of crew for this weekend's J/Fest Southwest regatta out of LYC. All positions needed, all experience levels considered. Two days of racing and partying with the best one design class in Texas!

You are welcome to purchase portable running lights for the J-22. I know of one person that stil has the running lights from their J-22; maybe they will loan them to you. Or, I can loan you the running lights I have for my 18' catamaran.

But you are incorrect about the times moving back. In 2018, the start time for RR #6 and #7 was 18:52:25. In 2019, I changed your time to 4:49:41. I personally prefer the later starts because of the heat. The start times did get adjuster this year a bit because we had to lengthen the RR course to avoid a reef that the big boats could hit.

A few years ago when the race boats were grouped together (based on SA/D), do you recall who won the overall? A J-24.

If you decide to start early, you will be scored OCS.

Galveston Bay Area Racing / Rum Race #7

I have registered for RR#7 PHRF Spin. BECAUSE the powers in charge have moved the start times later these past few years, and my boat does Not have lights, I have been forced to forgo some of the races or start an hour or so early. My plan for next week is to start early so I can make it back to the dock before dark. If anyone has an objection to me starting early, PLEASE take it up with the BoD's, they are the ones that have decided to exclude us small boat racers from this series/event by moving the start time, that forces finishes after dark.
I prorate/adjust my finish time so it is corrected and falls in line with the other racers.

A few years back we had 8 to 10 J-22's doing the Rum Races. Then we were thrown in with the A-Kite boats in a mostly off wind race, and then the times were moved back, finishing us after dark.

Crew Finder / Re: Newbie looking to crew
Last post by jbazley - August 12, 2023, 08:10:53 PM
Quote from: DonnyLazarz on June 15, 2023, 03:19:54 PMHi' I am Don Lazarz, owner of a J-29, named Touche'. I'm struggling to find crew for the Rum Races, starting June 17. I can teach you anything on the boat. I was a sailmaker for 20 years but racing since 1967. I am retired and have time to sail my own boat. The boat is well appointed now with all new gear and restored, and safe. New sails also.

Hi, Don. Sorry, I just realized I was not actually receiving alerts from this forum, so did not see you had replied. I know the Rum Races are almost over, but if you are still looking for crew, I would love to meet you and see how I can help.

Wednesday Night Racing / Series Scoring
Last post by Tye Dyed Gary - July 28, 2023, 04:57:23 PM
The SI's say you are using US Sailing, Racing Rules of Sailing 2021-2024. I noticed that an arbitrary time is being given to boats that did not race. Also boats that missed a race are given a place equal to or less them the boats registered.
I don't know how to explain the arbitrary time, and how it is factored in the scoring. BUT, according to RRofS 21/24, Appendix A Scoring A5.3 boats that did not come to the starting area shall be scored points for the finishing place one more than the number of boats entered in the series.

I know I edited the rule some to simplify my point and drop wording that does not apply, because I am not referring to boats that showed up and did not start or finish, or sailed the wrong course, just boats that did not show up on a given evening.
