Looking for some clarification on the race format.  NOR states there will be a W/L race and a distance race with a third day of either format.  Just trying to get a feel for how that will be decided.  Also, are you intending for all fleets to run W/L?
Thanks-
Chris

Chris,
The W/L format will be something like:
Start at marker 11, sail around the south jetty to a floating mark by the pleasure pier.  Then to another floating mark and back to the other floating mark a few times (this is the W/L part).  Then back around the south jetty and finish at marker 11. This is the "beach" course.
We probably won't decide on which course to run until we see what the weather is like.  The beach course is good when the wind is light, because it is easy to shorten.  If the wind is up, we can use a longer offshore course around rigs (plus that might be miserable for the markset boat).
If we run the "beach" course (W/L), we will probably send all fleets on it, with differing numbers of legs on the W/L part.  But even if it is the beach course, there is still a bit of reaching.

The only examples I have of TRW is from 2006.

The first photo below is of how a W/L might be set up.

G11->5A->Buoy at Pleasure Pier (Flagship) -> W mark > Buoy -> W -> 5A -> Finish at G11

Second photo is of one of several possible "offshore" courses.  These are around platforms.
Don't take the platforms in this graphic seriously.  Some are no longer there, but GBCA
will provide coordinates.

Hope this helps.

Okay, so nice long legs and not .75 mile wear out the crew type racing.
Thanks for the clarification!

TRW was one of the best events ever.  When it was at the Galveston Yacht Club GBCA had its own bar and bartender.  If you got hot you could just jump in the pool cool off and hit the bar one more time.  I hope I can make it.

It would REALLY help us if we know how many of you are planning on coming to the party(s).
You get 2 event passes with your boat registration, but everyone else needs to purchase an event pass, preferably now.

So if you are planning on coming down to Galveston next weekend, PLEASE purchase your event pass now.  It's fun and easy!

THANKS!

I just signed up for 5 additional passes for our rotating crew.  I used some placeholder names, hopefully we can sort that out at the skippers meeting.

Box Lunch order form here.

Please one form per boat, per day.  Get with your skipper regarding this. (Don't all skippers take care of their crews?)

T-shirts are in (both old school Cotton and slinky new Tech).
Trophies are in their final stage of assembly (can you say Elissa?).
Weather is cooperating.
Clubs are readying their bartenders for our onslaught.
Benno's chefs are sharpening their knives as they prep for our great meal Saturday night.
Andy and the Dreamsicles are polishing their brass horns for a rockin' eve at the Elissa.

It's not too late to enter your boat, or buy your event passes and just come on down for the festivities.  See y'all there!

Sail.  Party.  Repeat.
