An Introduction to Race Management Workshop is Sunday, Jan. 10 and Sunday, Jan. 17 starting at 1 p.m. both days at the Houston Yacht Club.  This is an excellent course for those who have never served on Race Committee as well as those who want to brush up on their skills and prepare for the new racing season. This free workshop is open to everyone and pre-registration is not required -- simply show up.  For more information, contact Gordie Keenan at gordiek@higman.com.

I would highly recommend taking the time to attend these sessions, even if you don't intend to serve on race committee.  It gives you a whole different persective on starts, course changes, etc. that will only enhance your sailing skills.  We are very lucky that the folks at HYC take the time to put this together and offer it to anyone that would like to attend.  This course would be especially worthwhile to folks that would like to get out and race but are a little intimidated by having to pick up on the rules.  The basics that you need to know will be covered from the perspective of the RC but will help you understand the bigger picture so you know what to expect.  Same goes for crew members, not just skippers!
